Tony Bennett, a veteran of jazz and popular music who served in the Second World War and went on to have a career that lasted more than fifty years, is currently on another concert tour of the United States and Europe.On August 3, 1926, in Astoria, Queens, New York City, Anthony (Antonio) Dominick Benedetto was born. His mother, Anna Maria (Suraci), was a seamstress, his uncle was a tap dancer, and his father was a grocery store owner named Giovanni “John” Benedetto.

Both of his parents came from working-class farming families in Calabria, Italy. At the Triborough Bridge’s opening, 10-year-old Tony performed a singing performance.
