Too Short Biography and Career:

Shaw was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. His family moved to Oakland, California, in the early 1980s. He used to play drums in the band at Fremont High School in Oakland, California. The video for “Too Short” was released online on the XXL magazine website on February 10, 2012. The video’s “Fatherly Advice” is aimed at men in late middle and early high school.

He suggests “a few tactics” for controlling female genitals “when you get into a certain frame of mind with the girls.” When the video went viral, XXL apologized and took it down immediately. Shaw and his high school buddy Freddy B started composing personalized tunes for folks in Oakland and the surrounding Bay Area a decade ago.

In 1985, Too Short joined with the Oakland-based record label 75 Girls Records And Tapes, which issued his major-hit debut album Don’t Stop Rappin’. The LinnDrum drum machine was used to create the raw, basic drum sounds on the record, which was followed by four 12″ releases.

One of the earliest hip hop recordings to employ the term “bitch,” which would later become a rapper’s trademark and be the subject of songs like “Ain’t Nothin’ but Word to Me.” In the early 1990s, he used the TR-808 to create beats and the TR-909 in the mid-to-late 2000s.

In 1985, Too Short and Freddie B. created the record label Dangerous Songs to market Too Short’s songs regionally. They also formed the Dangerous Crew rap group with extra members. Risky Music evolved into Short Records, Up All Night Records, and Dangerous Music. On his 1988 album Life Is…Too Short, he began using “replayed established funk riffs” rather than samples in his rhythms.

Until his death in 1997, he used well-known funk riffs in his rhythms. Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Scarface, and Pimp C were among the musicians who helped him achieve fame. The Notorious B.I.G. album Life Following Death’s tune “The World Is Filled…”, on which he appears on the third verse following Diddy and Biggie, was one of his most significant collaborations during this time period.

It also helped him gain more exposure because his usual style contrasted sharply with the Mafia-themed album that came out at the same time. In 1999, he appeared on TWDY’s hit track “Player’s Holiday” from their debut album Dirty Werk, as well as Priority Records’ Nuthin but a Gangsta Party. He began production on his eleventh studio album, Can’t Stay Away, in 2012.

He has now published two more albums. Jermaine Dupri, E-40, Lil Jon, Scarface (alongside Scarface), and B-Legit all made cameos on the album (with B-Legit). It came out in September. Even though Too Short moved to Atlanta in 1994, it wasn’t until 2000 that he began working with a larger range of Southern artists, such as Lil Jon, that he became a household name.

His comeback album, Can’t Stay Away, was released in 1999 and continued his sexually explicit and laid-back rhyming approach. You Nasty (2000), Chase the Cat (2001), What’s My Favorite Word? (2002), and Married to the Game (2003) were all produced by the band. (2003). Despite debuting in the top 71 of the Billboard 200, these albums did not perform as well as Too Short’s previous 1990s releases.

Too Short’s second album, Blow the Whistle (2006), was inspired by the new hyphy rap music emerging from Oakland. The CD came out in 2006. With this album, he made a return, reaching number 14 on the Billboard 200, far higher than his previous three efforts.

His later albums, such as 2007’s Get Off the Stage, have not received the same good reviews. This year’s “Hip-Hop Honors” included Too Short, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Slick Rick, and Naughty By Nature. On October 7, 2008, VH1 aired the episode live. In 2009, Too Short worked with Daz Dillinger, Lil Jon, Soopafly, Scarface, and B-Legit. A 2011 highlight for the rapper was a feature on Wiz Khalifa’s “On My Level” song.

“Take U Home” is on Snoop Dogg’s 2011 album Doggumentary, and he also performs on 50 Cent’s song “First Date.” On Snoop Dogg’s 2011 album Doggumentary, he features on “Take U Home.” Too Short and E-40 released two albums, History: Mob Music and History: Function Music, on the same day in 2012.

History: Mob Music and History: Function Music were both released in 2012. Both albums debuted in the top 100 of the Billboard 200 in their initial weeks. Both songs are on iTunes. Too Short claims a verse off Dr. Dre’s Detox song “Man’s Best Friend” (Pussy) is the best verse he’s ever recorded. In 2013, he was said to be working on a song with Lady Gaga called “Jewels n’ Drugs” for her 2014 album Artpop.

In 2014, he revealed working with Lady Gaga on the song. T.I. and Twista are among the performers featured on the song. Too Short was featured in Tavion Tate Guice’s 2015 song “Oakland Brookfield Dance.” Too Short was featured on Dumbfoundead’s 2016 Def Jam Records single “Cochino”.

The song is the eighth track on Dumbfoundead’s fifth studio album, We Might Die. Too Short’s 20th studio album, The Pimp Tape, came out six years after his last. His twenty-first studio album, The Vault, is out on December 20, 2019, and features a female lead.

On December 18, 2020, Too Short and E-40 announced the release of their joint album Ain’t Gone Do It and the terms of their deal with Def Jam. Too $hort’s huge underground success and wide distribution have prepped the band for radio success. “The Ghetto,” from the 1990 album Short Dog’s in the House, reached number 12 on the Billboard R&B/hip-hop chart and number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Platinum-certified albums like Shorty the Pimp (1992) and Get in Where You Fit In (1993) kept the band’s successful run of releases going. Despite Gettin’ It (Album Number Ten) becoming Too $hort’s sixth platinum album, he chose to call it quits before the year was through due to a slew of similar-sounding West Coasters by 1995’s Cocktails.

Three years later, he reappeared with Can’t Stay Away, which went gold after debuting in the Top Ten. The rapper established himself as a long-term prospect with four studio albums published in four years. In 2006, he had a massive hit with the Lil Jon-produced Blow the Whistle. With the release of his seventh studio album, Get Off the Stage, in 2007, Too $hort regained his freedom.

During the decade that began in the decade that ended in 2010, he released the albums Still Blowin’, No Trespassing, Hella Disrespectful: Bay Area Mixtape, The Sex Tape Playlist, and The Pimp Tape, all of which featured guest performances. In 2019, he released his twenty-first studio album, The Vault, marking the end of a decade in music.

The next year, he released Ain’t Gonna Do It/Terms & Conditions alongside fellow Bay Area phenom E-40. Along with the two major performers, the tape featured Larry June, Freddie Gibb, G-Eazy, Guapdad 4000, and hundreds of additional artists and musicians.
