Tri-City ValleyCats Biography and Career:
The Tri-City ValleyCats (sometimes known as the ‘Cats) are a professional independent baseball team based in Troy, New York, that competes in the New York State League. They are members of the New York State League and compete against other teams in the league. In this case, the word “Tri-City” refers to the three neighbouring cities of Albany, Schenectady, and Troy, which together form New York State’s Capital District and are referred to collectively as the “Tri-Cities.” In addition, the ValleyCats, who are members of the Frontier League, have no ties with the Frontier League or Major League Baseball in any way (MLB).
During their tenure as the Houston Astros’ Class A Short Season affiliate in the New York–Penn League (NYPL) from 2002 to 2020, they were members of the New York–Penn League (NYPL). The ValleyCats, who are minor league affiliates of the Houston Astros of the National League, were a member of the NL squad. It took the ValleyCats three seasons to turn their fortunes around and become one of the top teams in the Stadler Division, but they did it. They were the underdogs in the 2010 New York Professional League playoffs, having finished with a 38–36 record and winning their division by only a half-game over the Connecticut Tigers. During this season’s first two games, the Cyclones defeated the much favoured Brooklyn Cyclones (51–24) by a score of two games to one, advancing them to their third championship series in their brief history.On August 6, 2015, the ValleyCats’ second no-hitter in franchise history was thrown.

Following the cancellation of the Minor League Baseball season in 2020, Major League Baseball assumed direct management of Minor League Baseball and halted short-season play in the league. The franchise announced on January 7, 2021, that it would be joining the Frontier League, an independent MLB Partner league, for the 2021 season, effective immediately.
