Tucker Carlson Biography and Career:

Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson was born on May 16, 1969, in San Francisco, California, United States, to the artist Lisa Lombardi and the former United States ambassador to Seychelles, Richard Warner Carlson. His paternal grandfather served in the United States diplomatic service in Seychelles. In addition to his work as a “gonzo” reporter, Richard eventually assumed the roles of director of “The Voice of America” and president of the “Corporation for Public Broadcasting.”

Buckley Peck Carlson, who would eventually become Buckley Swanson Peck Carlson, is his brother and is younger by two years than he is. In 1976, Carlson’s parents went through a divorce. When the children’s mother left the family to pursue a more “bohemian” lifestyle, the youngsters chose to remain with their father. After that, she had very limited interactions with other members of the family. In later years, she wed the painter Michael Vaughn.

In 1979, Carlson’s father also went through a second marriage. Patricia Caroline Swanson, his second wife, was the daughter of the founder of the company that is now known as “Swanson Enterprises.” When Richard married her, she had already been through one divorce. In subsequent years, she formally adopted Carlson and his brother into her family. Carlson and his brother both had their formative years in the city of La Jolla in California.

They relocated there while he was in the first grade at the new school. His education was completed at the prestigious ‘La Jolla Country Day School.’ After that, Carlson went to a boarding school called ‘St. George’s School’ in Midtown, which is located in Rhode Island. In 1991, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from “Trinity College,” which is located in Hartford, Connecticut. Carlson’s father encouraged him to pursue a career in journalism after the ‘Central Intelligence Agency turned down his application to join the organization.

The first position held by Carlson was with the national conservative publication known as Policy Review, where he worked as a fact-checker. After becoming dissatisfied with the working conditions at his previous job, he resigned and traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he took a job as a reporter for the newspaper known as the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

A number of essays and a book by Carlson titled “People against. Crime: How Citizens Can Restore Order to America’s Streets” were published around the same period. On the other hand, he did not have much faith in the book’s prospects. As a result, he called off the book contract. In 1995, he started working for the publication known as “Weekly Standard.” In addition, Carlson has contributed to publications such as “New York,” “Reader’s Digest,” “Esquire,” “The New Republic,” “The New York Times Magazine,” and “The Daily Beast” by penning essays for such publications.

In the year 2000, Carlson made the jump from radio to television by co-hosting the program “The Spin Room,” which did not last very long. It turned out that he had walked in on the performance by mistake. A receptionist had approached him while he was eating lunch one day and asked him what he knew about the O.J. Simpson trial. This encounter is included in the book that he wrote in 2003. Even though he had no idea what was going on, the receptionist asked him to participate in the filming of the episode of “48 Hours” since no one else was available.

Carlson was offered a position at ‘CNN’ within the following several hours after his interview. In 2001, Carlson and Robert Novak started hosting the discussion show ‘Crossfire’ on CNN together, with Carlson and Novak representing right-wing views and James Carville and Paul Begala representing left-wing ones, respectively. During the same time period, Carlson was the anchor of the weekly public affairs program “Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered” on PBS. Carlson’s autobiography, titled “Politicians, Partisans, and Parasites: My Adventures in Cable News,” was released by “Warner Books” in the year 2003.

In January of 2005, it was reported that Tucker Carlson would no longer be working for “CNN,” and his program, “Crossfire,” would also be canceled. After their heated exchange during his appearance on the program in October 2004, when Jon Stewart was a comic, it transpired at that time. The article “The New York Times” claims that Jon Stewart’s involvement was the driving force for CNN’s decision. Jonathan Klein, the head of the channel, agreed with Carlson’s assessment of Stewart’s performance; yet, he had little choice but to fire Carlson.

Carlson said that he had already quit a long time before Stewart had been on the show ‘Crossfire,’ which he used to refute the rumors that he had been fired. Carlson started his tenure as the anchor of the early evening program “Tucker” (also known as “The Situation with Tucker Carlson”) on “MSNBC” on June 13, 2005. He provided live coverage of the Lebanon War in 2006. Carlson also presented a late afternoon show for the network named “Winter Olympics 2006” and a program on MSNBC titled “Special Report: Mideast Crisis.” Both of these programs were hosted by Carlson.

On the news program “Verdict with Dan Abrams” that aired on MSNBC on a regular basis, he participated as a panelist. Carlson was a contestant on the third season of “Dancing with the Stars” in 2006, and she was paired with Elena Grinenko for the competition. On September 13, the couple was eliminated from the competition. On March 10, 2008, “MSNBC” decided to discontinue “Tucker” as a result of its poor ratings. Carlson started working as a contributor for ‘Fox News in May of 2009.

In addition to his participation in the “All-Star Panel” portion of “Special Report with Bret Baier,” he was a frequent guest on “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld,” a late-night satire program on Fox that he co-hosted with Greg Gutfeld. When Sean Hannity was unable to host his program “Hannity,” he was replaced by this guest host. “Fighting for Our Children’s Minds” was the title of a program that Carlson created for “Fox News” and hosted.

Carlson was given the position of senior fellow at the ‘Cato Institute’ in 2009, however, he eventually withdrew from the organization and is no longer connected to it in any capacity.  On January 11, 2010, he served as the inaugural editor-in-chief of the news website ‘The Daily Caller,’ which he co-founded with American political strategist and publisher Neil Patel. The Daily Caller was launched that same day. Foster Freiss, a conservative activist, provided financial support for the site. In April of 2013, Carlson became a co-host of the conservative news talk program ‘Fox & Friends Weekend,’ joining Alisyn Camerota and Clayton Morris in that capacity.
