VivziePop Biography and Career:

Vivienne Medrano, popularly known as VivziePop, is an American animator, illustrator, comic book designer, and voice actress of Salvadoran descent. She was born on October 28, 1992. She is best known for creating the adult cartoon programmes Helluva and Hazbin Hotel. In 2012, Medrano began posting videos to YouTube under the alias “VivziePop,” and she quickly gathered a devoted following of fans and creators.

A24 picked up Hazbin Hotel for a whole series in August 2020. It was noted that Cartoon Brew “created and produced her “original pilot without any studio participation” at the time that the series’ pilot had received over 41 million views and that her channel had amassed over 3.6 million subscribers.  By choosing to air the show, A24, according to Animation Magazine, is taking a “bold step.” Based on her webcomic ZooPhobia, Medrano published an animated short film named “Bad Luck Jack” on September 30, 2020.

The short film received a nomination and an Ursa Major Award in the category of “Best Dramatic Short Work.”  The short was also mentioned on the Ursa Major Award website as a “Recommended Anthropomorphic Dramatic Short Work.” Nearly a year after the pilot episode’s first broadcast, Helluva Boss’ first season premiered in October 2020. The eight episodes that were ordered will all be made available on her YouTube account without charge.

By October 7, according to Animation Magazine, over 65 million people have watched the Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss pilots combinedly. When asked if Helluva Boss would remain independent of the Hazbin Hotel in February 2021, Medrano responded that she intended to do so for “as long as the audience wants to keep watching it.” She also said that they have “a plan for where the story goes and ends,” noting that having an ending feels “surreal.”

On a virtual stage at the Animation Exposé of the Ottawa International Animation Festival in September 2021, Medrano discussed the creation of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss.Bryan Dimas, a co-director of a group called LatinX in Animation and an associate producer of development at Warner Bros. Animation, accompanied her. Many of the creators who contributed to the Hazbin Hotel pilot will be back for the first season, according to Medrano, who said that the “indie spirit of the pilot continues on,” on March 3, 2022.
