Alex Hirsch Biography and Career:

Gravity Falls is an animated television series created by American writer, voice actor, animator, and producer Alexander Robert Hirsch. He is most known for developing the series. Additionally, he provided the voice for several other characters, such as Grunkle Stan, Bill Cipher, and Soos Ramirez. Hirsch, a recent alumnus of the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), obtained his first job as a writer and storyboard artist for the animated television series “The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack” on Cartoon Network.

After that, he developed and provided his voice for the Disney Channel show “Gravity Falls,” which he also produced. Because of its popularity, he published a tie-in book called “Gravity Falls: Journal 3,” on “The New York Times” best sellers list for almost a year. He also published a graphic novel titled “Gravity Falls: Lost Legends: 4 All-New Adventures!” due to the show’s success.

In addition, he has provided his voice for the animated series ‘Phineas and Ferb’ and ‘Rick and Morty,’ and he has also co-written the screenplay for the upcoming live-action Pokémon film ‘Detective Pikachu.’Alexander Robert Hirsch was born on June 18th, 1985, in Piedmont, located in the county of Alameda, in the United States of America. There is not a lot of information available on his family. However, it is known that he has a twin sister named Ariel and three half-sisters named Lauren, Jessica, and Katrina.

He counts his childhood fascination with the American animated comedy “The Simpsons” as one of the most significant factors in shaping who he is now. In 2002, when he was a student at Piedmont High School, he triumphed in the school’s annual Bird Calling Contest and took first place. During that time, he was also a guest on the popular American late-night talk program ‘Late Program with David Letterman.’

He attended the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he received his diploma in 2007 after completing his studies there. While he was there, he worked on a variety of short films and other projects. Among them was the 2007 springtime production of the short film “Off the Wall.” Mike Moon, a later animation executive at Disney, was fortunate enough to see a screening of the movie, which was a hybrid of animated and live-action sequences.

Because of this, Moon approached Hirsch with the idea of creating a television series for Disney, which ultimately led to the creation of “Gravity Falls.”Meanwhile, over the summer of 2006, he worked on an animated feature for the American stop-motion animation company Laika in Portland, Oregon. The project, which he worked on, was ultimately abandoned. Following his graduation from CalArts, Hirsch found employment with the digital entertainment firm known as JibJab, which was situated in Los Angeles, California.

His first employment was on the American animated television series “The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack,” produced by Cartoon Network and broadcast in the United States. He worked as a writer and a storyboard artist on the show. Fish Hooks is an animated television series that aired on the Disney Channel and was co-created by him and Bill Reiss. In addition to his work as Creative Director, he also provided his voice for the recurrent character of Clamantha in the series, which ran from September 3, 2010, to April 4, 2014, and spanned more than three years.

In 2012, he was able to produce one of the most significant works of his career when he was responsible for the creation of the American animated television series ‘Gravity Falls.’ Between June 15, 2012, and February 15, 2016, Disney Television Animation produced the critically praised Disney Channel and Disney XD program. Hirsch once recounted that when attending CalArts, he turned down an offer to work for DreamWorks Animation from Jeffrey Katzenberg because he ultimately wanted to work for Disney.

In addition to delivering the voices of recurrent characters such as Bill Cipher and Gnomes, Hirsch has contributed to the principal vocal parts of Grunkle Stan and Soos Ramirez in the animated series Gravity Falls. The series was nominated for several prizes and won a few in 2015, including the BAFTA Children’s Award and the Annie Award.

The adventures of Dipper Pines and his twin sister Mabel, which take place while they are spending the summer at their great-uncle Stan’s house in the enigmatic town of Gravity Falls, which is rife with mystical beings and paranormal forces, serve as the primary plot point of the television series Gravity Falls. The series debuted in 2011. This notion originated from Hirsch’s childhood adventures with his sister Ariel as they were on their summer break trips.

The author drew inspiration for the character of Mabel from Ariel, although Stan was modeled after the author’s grandpa. The show is based on several of Hirsch’s real-life experiences, including going trick-or-treating with his daughter Ariel and growing up in Piedmont, all of which are shown in the show. In July 2016, he devised a worldwide treasure hunt for “Gravity Falls” fans called “Cipher Hunt.” The clues for the search were dispersed worldwide in various locations, and the quest’s objective was to locate a statue of the fictional character Bill Cipher from the series.

Within a week of the hunt’s beginning, supporters in Reedsport, Oregon, located and excavated the statue. On the other hand, Hirsch’s tie-in book, Gravity Falls: Journal 3, which he and Rob Renzetti had co-authored, was made available for purchase on the 26th of the same month. After then, it spent nearly a whole year on the list of best-sellers published in The New York Times. The new ‘Gravity Falls graphic book that Hirsch authored was the subject of an official announcement on July 14, 2017, at D23.
