Annette Warren Biography and Career:
Anne Warren is a well-known jazz stylist and singer from the United States. She was born on July 11, 1922, and she is known for duplicating the singing voices of several famous people, including Lucille Ball in the films Sorrowful Jones (1949) and Fancy Pants (1950), as well as Ava Gardner in the 1951 film adaptation of Show Boat. Despite being 95 years old, she continued to give performances in the year 2017.
Meredith Willson’s Sparkle Time show on CBS was where she made her first appearance on the radio on October 4, 1946. In addition to performing in theaters and clubs in London, Warren also performed at venues in the United States, such as the Bon Soir, the Blue Angel, and the St. Regis Hotel Maisonette in New York City, as well as Ye Little Club in Beverly Hills.
In the off-Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera, she played the role of Mrs. Peachum with Jerry Orbach, Ed Asner, and Beatrice Arthur. Additionally, she appeared in the musical Livin’ the Life alongside Alice Ghostley and Edward Villella.
The Tonight Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, The Liberace Show, and The Summer Chevy Show are just a few of the shows that Warren has been on over his television career. Additionally, she appeared in the films Midnight Frolics and The Devil’s Sleep. Both of these films were movies. After completing her first dubbing job in 1947 for the movie Lured, she went on to perform for Iris Adrian in the 1948 picture The Paleface. Her first dubbing job was for Lured.
In 1949, she provided the voice for Lucille Ball in the film Sorrowful Jones, and 1950, she provided the voice for Fancy Pants. The year after that, she participated in an audition to sing for Ava Gardner in the remake of Show Boat (1951 film) that was produced by MGM. She was successful in her audition, beating out other hopefuls like Dinah Shore and Lee Wiley.
Additionally, she was responsible for providing all of the female voices for the UPA short film Rooty Toot Toot, which was rated number 41 on the list of the “50 Greatest Cartoons” of all time and was nominated for an Academy Award in the “Best Animated Short Film” category. She is also well-known for recognizing the brilliance of Connie Converse and for including her songs in her permanent repertoire. This is another reason why she is remarkable.
During her 54-year marriage to jazz musician Paul Smith, with whom she also sometimes played, Warren was a recording artist for several record companies, including Capitol Records, Verve Records, ABC Paramount Records, and Outstanding Records. Over twenty years, she appeared in the musical revue Hollywood’s Secret Singing Stars with other “ghost singers” such as India Adams, Betty Wand, and Jo Ann Greer.
In 2016, Fresh Sound Records issued a two-CD compilation of her songs titled “There’s a Man in My Life.” This compilation featured a retrospective of her recordings. In January 2016, Warren performed at the La Cicada Club in Los Angeles, which was hosting a party to commemorate the release of Lyn Stanley’s album titled Interlude. When Stanley decided to start her career as a jazz singer in 2012, Warren was a significant factor in her decision.
“I Ain’t Done Yet” was the title of Warren’s brand-new one-woman show that she performed for the first time at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, California, on April 24, 2016, when she was 93 years old. The person in charge of her is Alan Eichler. At the age of 94, Warren made his first trip back to New York City in over sixty years on March 30, 2017, to perform as the headlining act at Feinstein’s/54 Below.
It was in the 1940s when vocalist Annette Warren was in great demand for her vocal abilities because she had a perfectly tuned, rich voice and the ability to articulate songs expressively. She will allow her followers to hear her one more at a rare public concert that will take place on July 8. Warren sought out Moore, who, after hearing her sing and play, informed her that she did not need the assistance of Juilliard and instead allowed her to get personal tutoring.
The “secret” singing voice of Ava Gardner and Lucille Ball in films such as the MGM classic “Show Boat,” as well as a nightclub, television, and recording star whose career spans the past seven decades, Annette Warren will return to the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood on Tuesday, February 19, with the premiere performance of her new show, Professor Bob and the Old Broad. Accompanist Bob Remstein will also be present for the performance.
