Dan Biggar Biography and Career:
Daniel “Dan” Biggar (born 16 October 1989) is a Welsh rugby union outside-half who plays club rugby for the Ospreys. He has represented his country at the international level. He is the Ospreys’ youngest player to play in 100 games, having done so at the age of 21. Biggar was awarded the BBC Cymru Sports Personality of the Year Award on December 7, 2015, in Cardiff.
Biggar was born in the Swansea suburb of Morriston. He represented Wales at several age levels, including the Under-20 level. In October 2008, he was named to the Wales national rugby union team squad for the 2008 Autumn Internationals series, and he made his international debut against Canada on November 18, 2008, at the age of 19 years and nine months. On January 18, 2010, he was chosen to the Wales national team for the 2010 Six Nations competition, which would take place in the United Kingdom.
After 18 months away from the game, which included missing the 2011 Rugby World Cup, Biggar was reinstated to the Welsh team for the 2012 season after a strong run of form with the Ospreys. He capped off his outstanding season with a dramatic game-winning conversion from the touchline in the 2012 RaboDirect Pro12 Last, in addition to a number of other outstanding performances in the final weeks of the season.
The injury to Rhys Priestland provided Biggar with his first opportunity to wear the Welsh number 10 jersey during the triumphant 2013 RBS Six Nations Championship campaign, as Biggar started all five games at fly-half for the Welsh. A drop goal, a conversion, and a penalty against England in the Championship final gave Biggar the opportunity to top off his campaign in style.
Biggar’s excellent success continued into the 2013-14 season, with his efforts for the Ospreys earning him a call-up to the 2013 Autumn Internationals, in which he played against Australia and Argentina, scoring a try against the former and converting another against the latter. The 2014 Six Nations saw him play three games, two as a replacement for Rhys Priestland and one as a starter against France and England. He also started the game against Scotland.
Biggar started both tests against South Africa in June 2014, including the tight 31-30 second test loss, despite being yellow-carded. In the second test, Biggar was sent off. In the 2014 Autumn Internationals, Biggar solidified his position as Wales’ starting fly-half by appearing in all four matches and starting three of them. Aside from collecting several accolades for his world-class exploits, he was also named man of the match against South Africa in a 12-6 triumph. Biggar was a standout performer in all of Wales’ RBS Six Nations matches in 2015, and he scored his maiden Welsh try against France.
While playing in the 2015 Rugby World Cup, Biggar took up the kicking responsibilities from Halfpenny, who was sidelined for the duration of the competition. At the tournament, Biggar kicked a total of 56 points, including 23 points in Wales’ 28-25 victory against England, for which he was named man of the match.
In the quarterfinals against South Africa, he set up Wales’s try with a superb quick collect from an up and under before dumping to Gareth Davies, who raced in for the score. Fourie Du Preez’s late try gave them a 23-19 victory, despite the fact that they were leading at the time. Biggar has his unique pre-kick dance, which fans have dubbed “The Biggarena” in honor of Los Del Rio’s classic song “Macarena,” which was released in 1995.
