Dylan River is an Australian filmmaker originally from Alice Springs. Even though he came from a talented family full of filmmakers, he always found the industry dull and decided it was not for him. He couldn’t have been more incorrect than he was.

His first doc, “Buckskin,” premiered at the 60th annual Sydney Film Festival in 2013 and won the Foxtel Documentary Award. Dylan’s first short film, Nulla Nulla, premiered at the 2015 Berlin International Film Festival.

He was born with an indelible creative fingerprint. Growing up on film sets and accompanying his father to film school meant that Dylan was immersed in the film industry from an early age. His natural inclination was not always toward a photography career. Through a fortunate turn of events, he settled on a profession that allowed him to express his love of storytelling.

Dylan has a passion for preserving Indigenous culture and giving an insight into rural Australia through his work, which includes a documentary about the country’s largest off-road motorsport race, a music video for Australian rapper Briggs, and most recently, a comedic series called Robbie Hood, which stars a cast of local Alice Springs kids and was inspired by Dylan’s childhood in the desert. “When you leave, you reflect on your small-town upbringing,” he said.

The program is a true story that inspires the main story. Wow, he is like a Robin Hood for our day! The youngster trying to do good but yet behaving somewhat gangster struck me as an excellent story for a short film.

If I am going to build anything, it has to have meaning.
