Gordon Moore Biography and Career:

Moore, whose full name is Gordon Earle Moore, is an American businessman and the co-founder and chairman emeritus of Intel Corporation. He also came up with Moore’s law, which says that the power of computers will continue to grow exponentially. On January 3, 1929, Moore was born. At the start of 2016, it was thought that he was worth $7.3 billion. Moore was born in California’s San Francisco but grew up in the nearby town of Pescadero. The county sheriff was his father’s job. Moore worked with William Shockley, a graduate of MIT and Caltech, at the Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory division of Beckman Instruments. In 1965, Moore worked at Fairchild Semiconductor as the head of research and development (R&D). Electronics Magazine asked him to predict what would happen in the industry for semiconductor components over the next ten years.

Moore wrote in an article that came out on April 19, 1965, that the number of components (transistors, resistors, diodes, or capacitors) in a dense integrated circuit had been doubling about every year, and he thought that this trend would continue for at least the next ten years. In 1975, he changed the prediction rate to more like once every two years. Moore’s law became well-known because of Carver Mead. The prediction has become a goal for miniaturization in the semiconductor industry, and it has had a big effect on many different areas where technology is changing.

In July of 1968, Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore started an NM Electronics company. This company would become Intel Corporation a few years later. Moore was executive vice president from 1975 until the company’s board of directors chose him to be president. Moore became chairman and CEO in April 1979.
