Jordan Clarkson Biography and Career:

Jordan Taylor Clarkson is a Filipino-American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Clarkson was born on June 7, 1992. He received second-team all-conference accolades in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) while playing collegiate basketball for Tulsa for two seasons before moving to Missouri. During his time at Missouri, he won all-conference honors.

Clarkson was taken by the Washington Wizards in the second round with the 46th overall choice in the 2014 NBA draft. He was then immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers when the Wizards decided to forego his final year of college basketball to participate in the draft. He received a spot on the First Team of the NBA All-Rookie Team. 2018 saw the Cavaliers acquire Clarkson in a trade. His move to the Jazz came about in December of 2019.

On March 24, 2015, Clarkson and Jeremy Lin made history by being the first Asian-American to start backcourt in the history of the National Basketball Association. Clarkson was honored with the title of NBA Sixth Man of the Year in the year 2021. The Karen Wagner High School in San Antonio was his high school of choice. Not only did he receive honorable mention all-district awards, but he also averaged ten points per game during his sophomore year.

As a junior, he led his team to a record of 32–8 and helped them go to the semi-finals of the Class 5A state tournament. He averaged 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists per game. As part of his commitment to play collegiate basketball at the University of Tulsa, Clarkson signed a National Letter of Intent on November 11, 2009. During his senior year, he led his team to a 38–2 record and a defeat in the semi-finals of the state championship. He averaged 18.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game.

He also received the award for Player of the Year at San Antonio High School. Following his four consecutive selections to the Conference USA Freshman of the Week award during the 2010–11 season, Clarkson was honored with a spot on the Conference USA All-Freshman team in his first year of college basketball at Tulsa. Throughout 27 games, he started nine of them, and he averaged 11.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while playing 24.9 minutes per game.

Both the All-Conference USA first team and the NABC All-District 11 team have recognized him for his outstanding performance during his sophomore year. He played in 31 games, starting all of them, and averaged 16.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while playing 33.9 minutes per game. He received a spot on the second team of All-SEC players in 2014, even though he was a redshirt junior. Additionally, in January 2014, he was selected for inclusion on the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list, and he was awarded three Player of the Week accolades from the Southeastern Conference.

Averaging 17.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while playing 35.1 minutes per game, he participated in 35 games and started all of them. After the 2014 NBA draft, which took place on June 26, 2014, the Washington Wizards picked Clarkson with the 46th overall choice. After that, on draft night, he was dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for monetary considerations, and he joined the club for the 2014 NBA Summer League.

On August 25, 2014, he signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. During his debut season with the Lakers, he was given several assignments to the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League. As a result, he did not play for the Lakers for most of the first half of the season. Despite this, he ended up starting 38 games for the Lakers, predominantly as a point guard, and on average, he averaged 15.8 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.2 rebounds when playing in the starting lineup.

In a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 24, 2015, he had a game that was the best of the season, scoring 30 points and dishing out seven assists. Together, they made history by becoming the first Asian-American starting backcourt in the history of the league. Jeremy Lin was their starting partner. Both on March 30 and April 1, Clarkson achieved a double-double for the second consecutive game. His performance throughout the season earned him a spot on the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Only four previous players selected in the second round ever made it into the first team in the thirty years before this one. Because Clarkson is of Filipino descent and the fact that the Lakers already had a fanbase in the Philippines, he was able to amass a significant following in the Philippines after joining the aforementioned club. Clarkson tied his career best with 30 points scored on November 3, 2015, when the Denver Nuggets defeated the Denver Nuggets by a score of 120–109.
