Kathleen Turner Biography and Career:

Kathleen Turner, born Mary Kathleen Turner, is an American film and stage actress who became popular in the 1980s because of her flawless blend of beauty, intellect, elegance, and abilities. She is best known by her stage name, Kathleen Turner. She had a tremendous run on Broadway and was nominated for Tony Awards for her parts in ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ before she moved to Hollywood and started a successful career there. Before that, she had a long history of involvement in the theater.

The young lady came from a fairly traditional household. Therefore, it seems improbable that she would pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Both of her parents, notably her father, were adamantly against the idea of their daughter dating a career in this industry. However, the determined woman did not let the pressure from her family stop her from following her heart. She attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where she majored in theater, and she has been in several theatrical shows directed by Steve Yeager.

After that, she began her career in television, and her first movie role was in ‘Body Heat,’ in which she played a crafty lady who plots to have her husband murdered. Her unfiltered sensuality and penchant for taking risks quickly made her a favorite among industry professionals. As an actor, she is well-known for playing offbeat characters in movies such as “Serial Mom,” “Peggy Sue Got Married,” and “Prizzi’s Honor.”

Unfortunately, health concerns prevented her afterward from making further progress in her profession. Her father, Allen Richard Turner, and her mother, Patsy, brought her into the world. Her father had a career in the United States Foreign Service. Because her father worked in a field that required international travel, the family moved about quite a bit. She was brought up in a home that was quite traditional and Christian. Even when she was little, she was interested in performing arts despite her parents being against the idea.

After receiving her diploma from the American School in London in 1972, she relocated to the United States. After completing her first two years at Missouri State University, she continued her education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where she majored in drama. 1977 was the year that she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Throughout her years as a student at the university, she often participated in several theater shows that Steve Yeager directed.

She made her acting debut off-Broadway in the play ‘Mister T’ by Michael Zetter at the Soho Repertory Theatre in 1977, when she relocated to New York City. After an interim period of a few months, she debuted on Broadway as Judith Hastings in the play ‘Gemini’ at The Little Theatre.

Her first performance in a movie was as the femme fatale Matty Walker in the 1981 suspense picture “Body Heat,” which marked the beginning of her career in the film industry. Everyone adored her performance as the character of a beautiful and crafty lady who plans the death of her husband. After making her debut, she handled many roles because she did not want to be pigeonholed as a sexually alluring temptress.

In the science fiction comedy “The Man with Two Brains,” released in 1983, she portrayed the role of a gold-digging wife. She decided to play a humorous part in the romantic comedy “Romancing the Stone,” released in 1984 and directed by Robert Zemeckis. Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito were also a part of the cast. It was a huge commercial success, and it propelled Turner to the forefront of celebrity.

In the comedy-drama ‘Peggy Sue Got Married,’ released in 1986, she portrayed the role of a middle-aged married lady who discovers that she has been transported back in time to her high school years. Because of her performance in this part, she was considered for a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. In 1989, she had another role in the dark comedy ‘The War of the Roses’ with Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito.

In the movie, we follow the narrative of a successful couple who have what would seem to be the ideal marriage but are at the point of getting a divorce because of specific problems. Throughout the decade of the 1980s, she was a highly sought-after actor. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in the 1990s, severely hampered her ability to continue working in the entertainment industry.

She also began drinking excessively during this period, contributing even further to her career’s destruction. She had some success with the character of Beverly Sutphin in the 1994 dark comedy ‘Serial Mom,’ in which she portrayed an ideal housewife who turns out to be a serial murderer and becomes a celebrity due to her infamy. Before this, she had been in a few mediocre films in thin he early 1990s.
