Mario Barrett Biography and Career:

Mario Dewar Barrett (born August 27, 1986)is an American singer, songwriter, actor, dancer, and model who goes by the moniker Mario. Born and reared in Baltimore, Maryland, he recorded his self-titled debut album, which was published in 2002, and at the age of fourteen, he secured a record deal with J Records. “Just a Friend 2002,” a top 10 single, is among them. He received two Billboard Music Awards for the number-one hit “Let Me Love You,” which appeared on his second album Turning Point, which was published in 2004.

In December 2007, he released his third studio album, Go, which featured the singles “How Do I Breathe,” “Crying Out for Me,” and “Music for Love.” 2009 saw the release of D.N.A., his fourth studio album, which featured the singles “Break Up” (with Gucci Mane and Sean Garrett) and “Thinkin’ About You.” Mario was named No. 98 on Billboard’s “Artist of the Decade” list at the conclusion of the 2000s decade.

He had a more introspective vibe with his fifth album, Dancing Shadows, which was released in 2018. Along with his musical career, he has worked as an actor, appearing in Step Up (2006), Freedom Writers (2007), and Empire (2018–2020). Mario appeared as the lead in the live television production of the musical Rent in 2019. The gospel ensemble Reformation’s singer Shawntia Hardaway and her husband, Derryl Barrett Sr., welcomed Barrett into the world on August 27, 1986.

Additionally, he has a half-brother named Derryl “D.J.” Barrett Jr., a drummer by trade. He grew raised in Baltimore County, Maryland, in working-class areas like west Baltimore.  While his single mother battled drug addiction, he stayed with his grandma, who raised him. Mario declared his desire to become a singer at the age of four. His mother gave him a karaoke machine in support of his goal.

The oldest child of comedian Mo’Nique, Jaye Brebnor, Mario’s best friend, and Chea Tyler, his younger godsister, all joined a musical ensemble at Milford Mill Academy. Barrett used his piano playing ability as the foundation for his songwriting and melody. Troy Patterson, a producer, heard him perform “I’ll Make Love to You” at a Coppin State College talent contest when he was eleven years old and signed him.

During his early adolescence, Mario attended Milford Mill Academy up until the eleventh grade, when he was influenced by his music teacher. On Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 programme in May 2016, Mario debuted his brand-new song, “I Need More.” He also revealed the name of his upcoming fifth studio album, Paradise Cove, which is scheduled to be published on his recently established independent label New Citizen.

The album’s second single, “Let Me Help You,” was made available on December 13 by the artist. In an interview with Music Choice in March 2017, Mario stated that his fifth album’s new name is Cosmo 17 and that Paradise Cove will no longer be the album’s working title “The new album is named Cosmo 17, and I genuinely adore Paradise Cove as well.

I am unable to claim that this album has an island feel. “Let Me Help You” is the only recording, in my opinion. It kind of developed on its own throughout the rest of the album. It’s almost as if I were speaking to myself when I was a child and saying him things like, “Love still exists like it’s still true like you know you still believe in it, don’t give up, and if you can’t find it here on Earth maybe you’ve got to go to the universe to find it.””

On June 16, 2017, he dropped the new single “Pain is the New Pleasure” from Cosmos 17.He co-wrote “For Love,” a new charity single, with THRDL!FE and Kelli-Leigh in October. The album Cosmo 17 has been renamed Dancing Shadows, and it will be published in the late fall with a new song called “Drowning,” according to Mario, who spoke with the FunX radio station during the Oh My! Music Festival in June 2018: “Its name was altered.

An album is created just like a child is born. You pass through various names and moods.”The song “Drowning” and its music video were released by Mario on July 20. He explained in a press release that the song is about having to deal with the fact that I love various women for different reasons. Mario’s fifth album, which has the same name, debuted on September 14, 2018, with the release of its title tune.

Dancing Shadows was eventually made available on October 5, 2018.The song “Closer” was published by Mario on April 24, 2020; it can be found on his EP of the same name, which was released on October 16, 2020. His sixth studio album is scheduled to be released in 2021. On October 2, 2020, “Mars” and its music video were made available as the EP’s second single.  “Pretty Mouth Magick,” the third single, and its music video were made available on October 16, 2020.
