Vivica A. Fox Biography and Career:

Vivica Anjanetta Fox is a well-known American actress, producer, and television personality. She was born on July 30, 1964, in the United States. Fox started in the entertainment industry on the show Soul Train (1982–1983). She ultimately continued her career with parts on the daytime television serial operas Days of Our Lives (1988) and Generations (1989–1991), and then she moved on to the prime-time slot, appearing alongside Patti LaBelle in the NBC comedy Out All Night (1992–1993). Her most recent job was as a judge on Dancing with the Stars.

The breakout year for Fox was 1996 when he appeared in two films that went on to become commercial successes: Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day and F. Gary Gray’s Set It Off. Booty Call (1997), Soul Food (1997), Why Do Fools Fall in Love (1998), Kingdom Come (2001), Two Can Play That Game (2001), and Boat Trip (2002) are some of the movies in which Fox has appeared as a lead actor. The serial made history by becoming the first soap opera to feature an African-American family from the beginning of the show’s run. Fox started appearing on prime-time television in the early 1990s, performing guest-starring on shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Beverly Hills, 90210, Family Matters, Matlock, and Martin. In 1992, she was offered a role on the NBC comedy Out All Night, playing the role of Charisse Chamberlain, Patti LaBelle’s fashion designer daughter.

In addition to performing this part, she returned to soap operas by appearing as Dr. Stephanie Simmons on the CBS serial opera The Young and the Restless from 1994 through 1995. In the epic science fiction catastrophe movie Independence Day, directed by Roland Emmerich and released in 1996, Fox portrayed the role of Jasmine Dubrow, the girlfriend of the character played by Will Smith.

The movie brought in more than $800 million all around the globe. Fox was honored with an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss for her performance with Smith and nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress. Later in the same year, she starred with Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, and Kimberly Elise in the criminal action picture Set It Off as the character Francesca “Frankie” Sutton.

Set It Off, directed by F. Gary Gray and with a budget of $9 million, was a commercial and critical triumph, bringing in more than $41 million after its first release. In 1997, Fox appeared in three movies: the comedy Booty Call, Columbia Pictures and co-featured Jamie Foxx produced; the superhero movie Batman & Robin; and the highly praised comedy-drama Soul Food, which 20th Century Fox made.

The latter film was a massive hit at the box office. Fox was nominated for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance, and she also won the MTV Movie Award for Best Performance for her work in the film. On television, Fox appeared in several other significant roles. In the 1997 version of the British television movie Solomon, she performed the role of Queen of Sheba. The same year, she had a starring role alongside Arsenio Hall in the ABC comedy Arsenio, which did not last long.
