Denver Broncos Biography and Career:
Broncos, a Denver-based professional gridiron football club in the National Football League that competes in the American Football Conference (NFL). The Broncos have won eight AFC crowns and three Super Bowls in their long existence (1998, 1999, and 2016).
They were one of the initial members of the American Football League when they were created in 1960, making them one of the oldest teams in the league (AFL). Since its inception, the NFL’s Denver Broncos have never had a winning season and have finished last in their division six different times.
There were several outstanding players on the squad during this period, notably wide receiver Lionel Taylor, who was the AFL’s catches leader five times and running back Floyd Little, who both played for the New York Jets. Since their inception as a result of the 1970 NFL-AFL merger, the Denver Broncos had been in the bottom half of their division until their first winning season in 1973.
During the 1977 regular season, the Broncos made their first appearance in the postseason. The Broncos finished 12–2 that season, earning the best record in the conference. This decade saw the Broncos progress to three Super Bowls, and their two straight AFC championship games against the Cleveland Browns in 1987 and 1988 were among the most memorable games of the era.
It was fumbled that determined the outcome of both games, with the former settled by Elway guiding the Broncos 98 yards in the fourth quarter to equal the score and win in overtime, while the latter was decided by fumbles (which became known as “The Drive”). The latter was decided when Browns running back Earnest Byner fumbled the ball on the Denver 3-yard line with just over a minute remaining as he attempted to score a tying touchdown (“The Fumble”).
In spite of both dramatic championship game triumphs, the Denver Broncos were unable to capitalize on them and were heavily defeated in each season’s following Super Bowl appearance. Despite making it back to the Super Bowl in 1990, the Denver Broncos were crushed by the San Francisco 49ers, suffering their biggest loss in Super Bowl history, 55–10. He was fired following the 1992 season, in part because of his inability to win a Super Bowl, which was exacerbated by his long-running animosity with Elway.
In 1995, Denver hired Mike Shanahan, a longtime offensive coordinator, to be the team’s head coach. As executive vice president of football operations for the Denver Broncos, Elway assumed his current position in 2011. AFC West champions in 2011, the club advanced to the playoffs thanks to late-game heroics from quarterback Tim Tebow, who led the team to four overtime wins that season, including an opening-round playoff victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the same season.

The lack of conventional quarterback abilities and unorthodox throwing techniques shown by Tebow, on the other hand, did not inspire confidence in Elway, and the club hired veteran All-Pro quarterback Peyton Manning in March of 2012. In 2012, Manning guided the Broncos to the best record in the AFC (13–3), but the club was defeated in the first round of the playoffs by the Patriots.
Denver’s record-setting offense was shut down by the Seattle Seahawks in a 43–8 Super Bowl defeat, despite winning both of their home playoff games. With Manning as the quarterback, the Broncos were less dominating in 2014, but they still won their third consecutive division championship. This was followed by another upset defeat in the first round of the playoffs, which ended the season for the squad.
