Donny Cates Biography and Career:

Donny Cates is a well-known American comic book writer, illustrator, and podcaster. He was born on September 14, 1984, and is best known for his work on comic book series such as Venom, Thanos, Doctor Strange, Thor, and Hulk. Dallas, Texas, is where Donny Cates began his life. Cates claims that his father taught him to read using comic books when he was a child and that the family lived in Garland, Texas.

After completing his high school education at Garland, Cates studied painting at the Savannah College of Painting and Design. There, he would meet future creative colleagues Tradd Moore and Geoff Shaw. Cates had planned to study sequential art at the university but dropped out after learning he had been accepted into the Marvel internship program. During his internship, Cates got away with stealing a Diamond Distributors Gem Award given to Astonishing X-Men #1.

Cates quit the school after one year to pursue creating his comics under the guidance of Marvel editor Mark Peniccia, who encouraged him to do so. Cates was allowed to develop short tales for the Dark Horse Comics firm after a fortuitous encounter at C2E2 with a company staff member. The first comic work ever published by Cates was a short tale in Dark Horse Presents Volume 2, issue 24, in August 2013.

Hunter Quaid: Armageddon Outta Here was the name given to this particular piece of writing that he and Eliot Rahal had collaborated on. It was followed up by another article titled “Hunter Quaid: The Only Things We Have to Fear… are Nazis and Creepy Monsters,” published three issues later. As a result of Dark Horse being pleased with these tales, Cates was permitted to go on with other projects such as Buzzkill, The Ghost Fleet with Daniel Warren Johnson, and The Paybacks.

Cates also contributed to publications by IDW Publishing in 2016 and 2017, including one story to Star Trek: Waypoint and one to the one-shot collection Star Trek: Deviations. Cates ultimately started working as a writer for Image Comics, where he published his first comic book, God Country. Because of this title, he was noticed by the editors at Marvel, who ultimately extended an offer of employment to him.

His first works for Marvel to be published over an extended period were runs on Doctor Strange and Thanos. Following the achievements of these series, Cates was entrusted with writing responsibilities for Venom, where he collaborated with the artist and podcaster Ryan Stegman. As a result, he wrote many company-wide events, such as Absolute Carnage and King in Black. Cates took up Thor’s writing duties in January 2020, while Nic Klein was promoted to illustrator.

Later that same year, he collaborated on the book Crossover with God Country musician Geoff Shaw on the project.KLC Press, named after a quotation by Todd McFarlane titled “Kids Love Chains,” was established by Cates and Stegman in June 2021. The duo’s book, Vanish, was intended to be the first publication under the KLC Press imprint.

Cates took up writing duties for the Hulk comic book series in November of the same year, while Ryan Ottley was brought on as the series’ new artist. Image Comics announced that they will be publishing a physical copy of Vanish in June of 2022. Cates were involved in a major vehicle accident in 2023 that left him with amnesia and no memory of the previous half-year of his life. He had no idea what had happened during that time. In the midst of all of this, he also went through a separation and divorce. Because of this, Cates was compelled to withdraw from different literary projects.

Donny Cates traveled to San Diego Comic-Con the week before last, and while he was there, he informed the founders of the Comic Pop Returns YouTube channel – who had interviewed him in the past – what had been going on with him. These creators previously interviewed Donny Cates. They said, “We ran into Donny Cates on the floor of San Diego Comic-Con, and he came out from hiding and asked us to mention this piece of information to folks out there in the audience on the show.”

The highly acclaimed Thor comic published by Marvel has lost some of its most critical creative geniuses. On Monday, illustrator Nic Klein confirmed be leaving the series, officially bringing an ending that had been going on for more than three years. Following in the footsteps of Donny Cates, who left the world of comics a year ago to go on an extended hiatus, Klein has also decided to leave the industry.

Donny Cates, a writer for Marvel Comics, is no longer writing the continuing Hulk comic published by Marvel Comics. On the other hand, he has been working behind the scenes at the House of Ideas to prepare the basis for an “insane” new endeavor. Cates and series artist Ryan Ottley is credited as writing Hulk #12 for Marvel Comics, scheduled to be released on February 15, 2023. The solicitation was published not too long ago.

The current running narrative for the Hulk, in which Bruce Banner’s green alter ego transforms into a multi-dimensional spacecraft, may soon end. It is abundantly evident that this Hulk series entirely ignored the ending of its predecessor, Immortal Hulk, and destroyed all of the advancement and character development that Bruce Banner accomplished throughout that highly praised narrative. This was made clear by disclosing one of its most perplexing secrets.
