Georgia State Panthers football Biography and Career:
The Georgia State Panthers football team represents Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a member of the American Football Conference (AFC). Founded in 2010, the Panthers football team plays at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level. The Sun Belt Conference is where the squad plays its home games.
During the month of November 2006, a research commissioned by Georgia State University was finished and sent to the university. It concluded that Georgia State was in a strong position to have a competitive football team and based its findings on the university’s geographic location and available resources. By 2012, it expected total yearly costs to reach $3.1 million, according to its estimates. On April 15, 2007, Dan Reeves, the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, was hired by Georgia State as a consulting advisor.
When the university started debating the prospect of introducing football on November 1, 2007, it was a watershed moment. Shorter Hawks defeated Georgia State 41–7 in the Bulldogs’ first football game and home opener on September 2. Parris Lee was the player who scored the first touchdown. The Georgia Dome had an audience of 30,237 people, including former Georgia governor Sonny Perdue and former mayor Andrew Young, among other luminaries. Later in the season, on November 18, Georgia State would travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to face the reigning national champion and number 10 rated Alabama, a game that the Bulldogs would lose 63–7. It was Albert Wilson who scored the lone touchdown, which came off of a kick return. Georgia State would end with a 6–5 record in its first season in the NCAA.
The Panthers would finish with a 3–8 record in their second season of competition.
