Indiana Pacers Biography and Career:

They are an American basketball team headquartered in Indianapolis. The Pacers are a part of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The Pacers began in the American Basketball Association (ABA) in 1967 and joined the NBA in 1976 as part of the ABA–NBA merger. They play at Bainbridge Fieldhouse. The squad is called after Indiana’s history with pace cars and harness racing. The Pacers have three ABA titles. The Pacers won the NBA East in 2000. In nine division titles. The Pacers have had 13 head coaches. Larry Staverman was the team’s first coach in the ABA in 1967. Bobby Leonard coached the squad to 529 victories in 12 seasons.

The initial team colours were blue and yellow, with a medium blue. The Pacers’ home uniform is white with blue and yellow accents. They wear blue with yellow accents. A third uniform, yellow with blue trim, is worn on occasion at home or on the road. They used a gold home kit with blue and white accents in 1983. Their pinstripes went from 1997 to 2005. One of their most famous outfits, worn from 1990 to 1997, was created by American track and field athlete Florence Griffith-Joyner and included a modern typeset reminiscent of Helvetica. Pacers fans called the jerseys “Flo-Jos.” They debuted their new outfits on September 29, 2005.


The Indiana Pacers presented a new uniform based on the 1986 film Hoosiers on July 21, 2015. During the 2015–16 season, the Pacers wore these maroon and gold “Hickory” outfits for certain home games and a few road games. A major North American pro sports team has never worn a film-inspired uniform. It was announced on July 28, 2017, that the NBA has signed a uniform contract with Nike. The Pacers opened the playoffs against the eighth-seeded Atlanta Hawks (38–44).

The Pacers lost 101–93 to the Hawks in Game 1. The Pacers won Game 2 101–85. The Hawks won Game 3 by 13 points in Atlanta. Indiana regained the series lead after winning Game 4 in Atlanta by three points. The Hawks outscored the Pacers 41–19 in the second quarter at Indianapolis. The Pacers rallied late in the fourth quarter to cut the once 30-point advantage to nine, but it wasn’t enough to win Game 5. Three days later in Atlanta, the Hawks led by ten points at halftime, but Indiana led by five. The Pacers led by nine points in the third quarter, but the Hawks rallied and led by three in the conclusion.

Throughout the fourth quarter, the game was close. With three minutes left and a five-point deficit, the Pacers’ season appeared over. The Pacers then won the game 16–4 behind David West, extending the series to a seventh game in Indianapolis. On May 3, 2014, the Pacers hosted their first-ever Game 7 at home. 18165 people came to see the Pacers and Hawks play in a must-win situation. Atlanta led by six in the first quarter, but the Pacers led by one in the end. Indiana went on a 24–6 run in the second and third quarters to take a 17-point lead and never looked back, winning 92–80. It was a rematch with the second-seeded and defending champion Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Pacers stunned many by winning Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals 107–95. The Pacers lost the following three games to the Heat before escaping elimination in Game 5 with a tight win. LeBron James fouled out early and played less than 30 minutes, while Paul George exploded for 37 points in the second half. Lance Stephenson blew into LeBron James’ ear during the game. Despite the triumph, the Pacers were eliminated by the Heat in Game 6. On June 30, 2017, the Thunder acquired Paul George for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis.


After receiving harsh criticism for the deal, Oladipo had his finest season ever, posting career-high increases in points, steals, and assists while also improving his free throw and field goal percentages.  In 2017–18, Sabonis increased his points, rebounds, and assists while leading the Pacers in rebounding. Oladipo was named a 2018 NBA All-Star reserve, while Sabonis was named a Rising Stars Challenge representative. Oladipo led the NBA in steals per game. The Pacers finished the season 48–34, enough for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Their record was six games better than last season. For the second year in a row, the Pacers met the Cavaliers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. The Pacers lost the series 2–1 in seven games to the Cavaliers.
