Jacqueline Winspear Biography and Career:

The English county of Kent is where Jacqueline Winspear spent her childhood and where she was born. After completing her post-secondary education at the Institute of Education at the University of London, Jacqueline went on to work in the fields of academic publishing, higher education, and marketing communications in the United Kingdom.

She moved to the United States in 1990, and while she was working in business and as a personal/professional coach, Jacqueline began pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming a writer. For the former, she conducted interviews with authors such as Kate Atkinson, Rhys Bowen, Jeff Shaara, and Adam Hochschild for the purpose of examining the effect that writing about war has on the author, while the latter examines the role that women play in the management of wildfires.

Her article on the craft of creating historical mysteries is going to be included in the forthcoming anthology/handbook from Mystery Writers of America called How to Write a Mystery, which is going to be edited by Lee Child (April 2021)

Henry Holt selected “Pardonable Lies,” Jacqueline’s third book, to be their main fiction title when it was released in September of 2005. It went on to become the first recipient of the Macavity and Sue Feder Award for the Best Historical Mystery. After that, she published her fourth novel, which was titled Messenger of Truth. In 2006, it was considered for an Agatha Award nomination for Best Novel. Each of the first four Maisie Dobbs novels was able to achieve this award on its own!
