Jane Therese Curtin is a well-known American actress named “Queen of the Deadpan” during her career. She not only has a captivating personality but also a one-of-a-kind style of connecting with the audience via the acting that she does. During her adolescent years, she found herself more interested in dramatics and ultimately decided to pursue a career in acting.

She began her career by being cast in an episode of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” where she quickly rose to fame for her hilarious impressions of various characters and later joined the show’s cast as a co-host. Later on, she appeared in multiple sitcoms and musicals on Broadway, including the comedy “Kate & Allie,” for which she was awarded an Emmy Award not once but twice.

Her peculiar delivery of deadpan comedy quickly established her as a fan favorite, leading to the title of ‘Queen of the Deadpan’ being bestowed upon her. She displayed an equally impressive range of other emotions during her performances, contributing to her ability to enthrall the audience. She was the only girl out of her family’s three sons and was the only kid overall. She was preceded in death by her elder brother, John J. “Jack” Curtin, and is survived by her younger brother, Larry Curtin, who resides in Florida. She spent her formative years of study in the Convent of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic institution. She went on to get her high school diploma from Elmhurst Academy in Rhode Island in 1965.

After that, she attended Elizabeth Seton Junior College in New York City and received an associate degree after studying there for two years. After that, she became a student at Northeastern University in Boston, graduating in 1968 before dropping out. In 1968, she got an acting role in a comedy show called “The Proposition” in Cambridge, which paid her $40 weekly.

From 1968 to 1972, she worked in the same industry as other talented performers like Fred Grandy and Josh Mostel, providing her with valuable knowledge. Together with Fred Grandy, John Forster, and Judith Kahan, she collaborated on the play “Pretzels,” which debuted off-Broadway in 1974 and in which she also appeared. In 1974, she received simultaneous offers to appear on two comedy programs.

She was offered a position on ‘Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell’ on ABC, which included guest stars, and another part on ‘NBC’s Saturday Night Live,’ which featured fresh unknown faces of comedy. Because the ABC program was canceled after just 18 episodes, she made the critical choice to take the role that NBC offered.

She debuted on television in 1975 on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and remained a cast member of the legendary program for five years. She was a professional who put in a lot of effort and was committed to her job, unlike numerous others whose careers were derailed by substance abuse and alcoholism. In 1980, she decided to leave the program to pursue other chances. Meanwhile, she had a role in the 1981 Broadway play “Candida” with Joanne Woodward and the 1983 television version.

During the same period, she starred in films ‘How to Beat High Cost of Living’ (1980) and ‘O.C. and Stiggs’ (1985).In 1984, she was cast in the most important role of her career in the comedy ‘Kate & Allie,’ which aired on the ABC network. Alongside Susan St. James, who portrayed the character of ‘Kate,’ she was cast as ‘Allie Lowell,’ a self-sufficient mother who has been divorced.

The concert was very well received, and as a direct result of its popularity, she became famous very soon. The television program was shown from 1984 through 1989. She returned to the stage in 1989 with a production of ‘Love Letters’ on Broadway, which she had performed in after the musical had been canceled the previous year. Her second major break came in 1996 with the NBC comedy ‘3rd Rock from the Sun,’ in which she portrayed the role of Dr. Mary Albright. This was the beginning of a very successful career for her. The television program was shown from 1996 to 2001.

Alongside Paul Newman, she appeared in the 2003 version of the well-known play ‘Our Town,’ adapted for television. In the comedy ‘Crumbs’ aired on ABC in 2006, she had a recurring part as a mentally ill mother. However, the program was canceled after just a few episodes. In the film “I Love You, Man,” released in 2009, she performed as Paul Rudd’s mother. In the same year, she also appeared on the CBS comedy “Unforgettable,” playing the role of Dr. Joanne Webster.
