Johnny Hardwick Biography and Career:

Voice actor, comedian, writer, producer, and YouTuber John Michael Hardwick hails from the United States of America. His most notable role was as the voice of Dale Gribble in the animated series King of the Hill, which aired on American television. In addition to his work as a staff writer, he acted as the show’s story editor and producer. His efforts as a producer on King of the Hill earned him an Emmy Award in 1999, in addition to his four Prime Time Emmy Award nominations.

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, John Hardwick received his education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in journalism, he spent the next decade as a bartender at live blues bars in Dallas and Austin, Texas. These establishments include Nick’s Uptown, Sixth Street Live, and The Greenville Bar & Grill.

After that, he started doing stand-up comedy in 1990 and continued doing it for several years, performing at places like the Dallas Improv and the Velveeta Room in Austin, Texas, and appearing on series like Evening at the Improv and Caroline’s Comedy Hour. He made history by appearing on “The Jon Stewart Show” as the program’s first stand-up comedy guest.

In 1995, Hardwick made an appearance at the Montreal Comedy Festival. Then, Brandon Tartikoff saw him and later offered to star in an NBC comedy starring Hardwick. However, when Hardwick pitched a comedy program to the network similar to Green Acres and Got a Life, the network showed little interest in pursuing the concept. After signing with the Strauss-McGarr agency, Hardwick was consistently scheduled to do stand-up comedy in Austin and around the United States. His performances were well received.

However, he decided to leave to participate in the production of King of the Hill on MTV instead of playing a regular role in Austin Stories. At the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, Hardwick had a stand-up comedy performance in which he spoke about his childhood in Texas. After the concert, he was contacted by television writer and producer Greg Daniels and Beavis and Butthead’s Mike Judge, both of whom were contributing to the creation of King of the Hill at the time. Daniels and Judge were among the people working on the program then.

Daniels and Judge believed that the show would benefit significantly from having Hardwick’s brand of Texan comedy, so they extended an invitation to work as a writer for the new program. Because of his employment in the program, Hardwick relocated from Austin to the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. One day after the option on his sitcom development pact with NBC had expired, Hardwick started working for King of the Hill. This meant it was lawful for Hardwick to pursue a comedy with another network.

Daniel Stern was the first actor considered for the part of Dale Gribble; however, the producers could not agree with Stern on his compensation. Instead, Hardwick was chosen for the voice job and showed rest in the amount of money. Hardwick was the only actor to play the part for the 13-year run of the popular sitcom and appeared in 257 out of the show’s 258 episodes.

Hardwick established his own YouTube page on September 12, 2012, although there was no upload activity on the channel until 2015. In December 2018, Hardwick began posting new footage more regularly. As of May 2023, his channel had a total of 17,500 members and had garnered more than 608,000 views, with the majority of the videos being parodies of songs and monologues performed in the voice of Dale Gribble.

The updated version of the popular adult animated comedy series was created by Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, and Saladin Patterson, who were all involved in creating the original series. All three are also executive producers on the program, and Patterson is slated to take on the role of showrunner in addition to his other responsibilities.

Under the guise of their company, Bandera Entertainment, Judge, and Daniels serve as executive producers. In addition to Dustin Davis of Bandera, executive producers Michael Rotenberg and Howard Klein of 3 Arts also contribute to the show. The production company’s name is 20th Television Animation. The voice cast will be led by Judge once again, and all original cast members, including Kathy Najimy, Stephen Root, Pamela Adlon, Johnny Hardwick, and Lauren Tom, will be back for the sequel.

Hulu has given the go-light for a King of the Hill resurrection, and the streaming service has already ordered the show to go straight to series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the return to Arlen will bring more than just old cartoon faces, as the show’s creators, Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, are onboard as executive producers for the next season. They will also be joined by showrunner Saladin Patterson, best known for directing titles such as Dave and The Wonder Years (2021).
