Robert Geathers Biography and Career:

The eleventh of August, 1983 was the day that Robert Lee Geathers, Jr. was born. He is a former defensive end in American football. He attended the University of Georgia, where he participated in collegiate football. During the 2004 NFL Draft, the Bengals used the fourth round to choose him as their player of choice. It was in 2005, Geathers’ second season in the National Football League, that he established himself as a regular starter at defensive end with the Bengals, where he has spent his entire professional career.

Geathers has established a reputation for recording sacks and recovering turnovers while playing with the Bengals. While his uncle Jumpy Geathers played in the National Football League from 1984 to 1996, Geathers’s father Robert Geathers Sr. was selected in the first round of the 1981 draft. Geathers has a large number of family members who have played football at the collegiate or professional level.

Clifton Geathers, the younger brother, has been a member of the National Football League (NFL) since the year 2010, while Kwame Geathers, the older brother, was a member of the San Diego Chargers. In July 2017, Geathers was determined to be the forty-eighth-best player in the history of the Cincinnati Bengals, which spans fifty years. When Geathers was a true freshman at the University of Georgia, he started playing football for the Georgia Bulldogs. He majored in sports studies and was a member of the Georgia Bulldogs football team.

During his three-year career at Georgia, Geathers started 16 of 39 games and was the only true freshman to play all games in 2001. He was also the only player to start all games. The 81 tackles that Geathers made included five sacks, ten stops for losses, 22 quarterback pressures, six pass deflections, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble, and two interceptions. Geathers also made a forced fumble and four interceptions. In 2004, Cincinnati selected Geathers in the fourth round, 117th overall, in the National Football League Draft. Geathers had declared his intention to enter the draft after his junior year.

The Cincinnati Bengals selected Geathers with the second fourth-round selection (117th overall) on April 25, 2004, making him the team’s second overall choice. Geathers made his first appearance with the Bengals on September 26, after suffering an ankle injury that forced him to miss the first two games of the season. When Geathers was a rookie, he spent most of his time playing on special teams. Against the Dallas Cowboys on November 7, he had a career game that resulted in a win. He had a sack, forced fumble, pass deflected, and quarterback pressure that led to an intentional grounding penalty. All of these things contributed to the victory.

A game against the Washington Redskins on November 14, 2004, was Geathers’ first start in the National Football League. During the Bengals’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles on January 2, 2005, he made his first touchdown in the National Football League by intercepting a pass from Jeff Blake and returning it 36 yards. The Bengals secured a 24-3 lead as a result of this touchdown and the extra point. Geathers concluded the 2004 season with 16 tackles, four passes deflected, and one interception. He also has four interceptions.

On September 10, 2006, Geathers made a tackle on a scrambling quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs named Trent Green. The tackle hit Green on the chest and shoulder, causing Green to sustain a concussion. About the play, there was no penalty. Eddie Kennison may have attempted to block Geathers to force him into Green, according to Coach Marvin Lewis, who supported that idea.

There were about two months during which Green was on the injured list. The National Football League did not impose a sanction on Geathers for his hit. Following the conclusion of the 2006 season, Geathers ended with 42 tackles and 10.5 sacks. After recording two sacks of Oakland Raiders quarterback Aaron Brooks on December 10, Geathers achieved 10.5 sacks. He became the first Bengals player to make 10 sacks in a season since Alfred Williams in 1992. Geathers’ accomplishment was a first for the Bengals as a team.

In 2009, Geathers led the Bengals in tackles with 36, had 3.5 sacks, deflected three passes, and caused one turnover. He also led the team in tackles. In addition to the Wild Card game, he started 15 games throughout the regular season. Geathers made an aided sack of Ben Roethlisberger, the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, on third down late in the fourth quarter on September 27. This resulted in the Steelers having to kick the ball off the field.

Following that, the Bengals made the drive that ultimately won the game. Throughout the game against the Cleveland Browns on October 3, Geathers recovered a fumble and returned it 75 yards for a score. During the Bengals’ game against the Steelers on November 15, Geathers made a sack of Roethlisberger on first-and-goal from the Bengals’ eight-yard line, which forced the Steelers to settle for a field goal.

During the Bengals’ game against the Oakland Raiders on November 21, Geathers recovered another fumble and returned it 38 yards. The Bengals’ subsequent drive resulted in a field goal of their own. On the 26th of September, 2010, Geathers recovered a fumble that was thrown by Jonathan Stewart and returned it to the 37-yard line of the Carolina Panthers. This allowed the Bengals to drive for a score that ultimately resolved the game.
