Ted Shackelford Biography and Career:

Ted Shackelford is a well-known American actor who is most known for his work on television. He was born on June 23, 1946. Gary Ewing was the character he was cast as in the CBS prime time soap operas Dallas and its spin-off Knots Landing (1979–1993). He also had a recurring role as twin brothers William and Jeffrey Bardwell on the CBS daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless (2006–2015).

Shackelford spent his collegiate years at the University of Denver after being born in Oklahoma City, also in Oklahoma. Between 1975 and 1977, he was a regular cast member on the daytime soap opera Another World, playing the part of Ray Gordon. After that, he had guest appearances on the prime-time shows Wonder Woman and The Rockford Files before being cast as Gary Ewing in the 1979 season of the prime-time serial opera Dallas on CBS.

Beyond his turn as the character in 1978, actor David Ackroyd was cast initially; however, he could not reprise the part for further appearances beyond that year. Later in his career, Shackelford became a prominent cast member on the long-running television series Knots Landing, which aired on CBS from 1979 through 1993. After that, he played in the miniseries Knots Landing: Back to the Cul-de-Sac, which aired in 1997.

Shackelford debuted on the big screen in the adventure thriller Sweet Revenge, which he appeared in with Nancy Allen in 1987. During his time on Knots Landing, he appeared as a guest star on several other television shows, including Soap, Hotel, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Twilight Zone, and The Young Riders. Baby of the Bride (1991), Mother of the Bride (1993), Dying to Remember (1993), Sweet Temptation (1996), and Stolen Women: Captured Hearts (1997) were all made-for-television movies in which he had starring roles.

Shackelford had a starring role in the British science-fiction television series Space Precinct from 1994 to 1995. He had a recurrent part in the prime-time soap opera Savannah, which aired on The WB in 1996, and in the years that followed, he starred on shows such as Cybill, The Outer Limits, The Practice, and Dirty Sexy Money.

Shackelford started playing the role of William Bardwell, district attorney of Genoa City, on the daytime serial opera The Young and the Restless on February 2, 2006, after joining the cast the same day. William Bardwell’s character passed away from complications brought on by a stroke on July 18, 2007, marking his last appearance on the famous soap opera in that role.

On the other hand, Shackelford returned to the program on August 7, 2007, playing the role of Jeffrey Bardwell, Bardwell’s identical twin brother. On January 9, 2015, he appeared in the series. In 2013, Shackelford returned to the character of Gary Ewing for three episodes that aired on TNT during the second season of the Dallas television series. In one of those episodes, he was reunited with Joan Van Ark in her role as Valene.

The former actor of Knots Landing, who is now 66 years old, returned to his role as Gary Ewing in the reimagined series when the character traveled back to Texas to attend the burial of his brother, the oil magnate J.R. Ewing.

Shackelford’s return to the show’s legendary Southfork Ranch after 22 years should have been a landmark milestone in his acting career. Still, because he was so ill with a virus that he got up on set, he can hardly even recall the sequences that he filmed during his time there.

Because he recoils in embarrassment whenever he sees himself on film, Shackelford could not watch his sequences when his return episodes were shown in the United States. This resulted in a double setback for him.

Shackelford was one of Dallas’s original cast members, and he returned to the reimagined series this year (13) to pay his respects to J.R. Ewing after Larry Hagman, the actor who portrayed the character on the show, passed away in 2012.

Following his time on Knots Landing, Shackelford made guest appearances on programs such as Cybill, The Practice, and Spin City.
