Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers are the individuals responsible for the formation of Wet Leg, a British indie rock band that hails from the Isle of Wight during the year 2019. The track “Chaise Longue” was their first release, which came out in 2021. They made their debut with an album that bore their name, and it debuted at number one on the Irish Albums Chart, the ARIA Albums Chart in Australia, and the UK Albums Chart in 2022. There was a shortlist for the album in the 2022 Mercury Prize competition.
Not only did Wet Leg win the award for Best Alternative Music Album for their first album, but they also won the award for Best Alternative Music Performance for their song “Chaise Longue.” Additionally, they were nominated for the award for Best New Artist. They also took home the award for Best British Group and Best New Artist at the 2023 Brit Awards.
The Merseyside native In the year when she was eight years old, Teasdale relocated from Formby to the Isle of Wight. In the years leading up to the formation of Wet Leg, she was known as RHAIN and was connected to the music scene in Bristol. She was a local musician and pianist who played on the Isle of Wight for a considerable amount of time. Teasdale performed her song “Humdrum Drivel” in 2013 under the name RHAIN.

The origin of the band’s name has been the subject of several various interpretations and theories. According to an interview that took place in December 2021, they decided on the name by playing a game in which they selected various combinations of emoji. In an interview with Diffus that was uploaded on YouTube in April 2022, the band revealed that the origin of their name was derived from an adjective that was used on the Isle of Wight to refer to people who were not native to the island.
Following its release on June 15, 2021, the band’s first song, titled “Chaise Longue,” garnered media attention because it received millions of streams and video views. The release of their second single, titled “Wet Dream,” took place on September 28th, 2021. According to Variety, “It’s rare that a new group releases two songs and they’re both great”. On the 30th of October 2021, they made an appearance on the BBC2 program Later… with Jools Holland.
Their first album, which was named after themselves, was announced on November 29, 2021, and it was released on April 8, 2022, via Domino. Wet Leg released the double-single “Too Late Now” and “Oh No” on the same day a day earlier. They went on tour in the United Kingdom in 2022, performing songs from their first album. The following year, in 2023, it was revealed that they would be performing as the support band for Harry Styles’ Oceanic leg of the Love On Tour which would take place in Australia and New Zealand.
In November 2021, Wet Leg made an appearance on Later… with Jools Holland. In May 2022, he returned for the first half of his subsequent series appearance. Wet Leg stated that a claim made in a prior interview[20] regarding a finished second album was “a big joke” in an interview that took place in July 2022 with Andrew Ford of ABC in Australia. “We haven’t got a second album; we haven’t had any time to write”.
There were three nominations for Wet Leg at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. These categories were Best New Artist, Best Alternative Music Performance (“Chaise Longue”), and Best Alternative Music Album. The Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Music Performance were both awarded to Wet Leg on February 5, 2023, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
They performed “Chaise Longue” with the progressive Morris dancing troupe Boss Morris and their Morris creatures at the Brit Awards 2023, where they won the Awards for Best New Artist and Group of the Year. On Tuesday, September 26, they uploaded a mysterious video to their social media accounts, which showed an iPhone Notes app with three distinct dates written on it. This was the beginning of all that began.
They published two brief pieces of unreleased music the next day.
