In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 12, 1937, William Henry Cosby Jr. became the world-famous comedian known as Bill Cosby. His father, William Henry Cosby Sr., served in the United States Navy as a mess steward, while his mother, Anna Pearl, was employed in the service industry. There were three brothers that were younger than Cosby. As the oldest, Bill Cosby was responsible for seeing to his younger siblings’ requirements. James, one of his brothers, passed away when he was just 8 years old.
