Carolina Panthers Biography and Career:

The Carolina Panthers are an American football club headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, that competes in the National Football League. The Carolina Panthers are a member club of the National Football League (NFLNational )’s Football Conference (NFC) South division and participate in the National Football League (NFL).

Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium serves as the team’s headquarters and home field. The stadium also acts as the team’s training facility. Their venue, Panthers Stadium, LLC, is one of just a few NFL clubs that owns the facility where they play, making them one of the league’s most unique franchises.

In spite of the fact that the Panthers have played their home games in Charlotte since 1996, the club played its inaugural season at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, where the team received a large amount of support. The team’s annual training camp is held at Wofford College, which is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Matt Rhule serves as the club’s head coach.

Originally designated as the league’s 29th club in 1993, the Panthers started play in 1995 under the ownership of Jerry Richardson, the team’s founder, and original owner. As an expansion team, the Panthers performed admirably in their first two seasons, finishing with a record of Template: Win-Loss in 1995 (which was the best ever for an NFL expansion team’s first season) and 12–4 the following year, winning the NFC West before losing in the NFC Championship Game to the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.

In 2003, they won the NFC Championship Game and advanced to Super Bowl XXXVIII, where they were defeated by the New England Patriots, 32–29. They did not have another successful season until 2007. After making appearances in the playoffs in 2005 and 2008, the club did not return to the postseason until 2013, when they won the first of three straight NFC South championships.

The Carolina Panthers returned to the Super Bowl in 2015, when they were beaten by the Denver Broncos after losing in the divisional round to the San Francisco 49ers in 2013 and the Seattle Seahawks in 2014. The Panthers have made it to the postseason eight times, going to four NFC Championship Games and two Super Bowls in the process. Six division championships have been won by the team, including one in the NFC West and five in the NFC South.

The Carolina Panthers are officially known as Panther Football, LLC and are owned by David Tepper, whose acquisition of the club from founder Jerry Richardson was overwhelmingly authorized by league owners on May 22, 2018. According to Forbes, the club has a market value of around US$2.3 billion.

When businessman Jerry Richardson unveiled his quest for an NFL expansion team in the Carolinas on December 15, 1987, the world took notice. Richardson, a native of North Carolina, was a former wide receiver for the Baltimore Colts who used his league championship bonus from 1959 to co-found the Hardee’s restaurant chain, which he eventually rose to become president and CEO of TW Services. Richardson was born in Durham, North Carolina.

Template: Win-loss record overall versus Seattle since the 2012 season, and Template: Win-loss record in the playoffs since the 2012 season for the Panthers. The fact that they will have played each other eight times between 2012 and 2018—at least once a year—has contributed to the rivalry element. The bulk of the matches have been tight, and the fact that they have played each other close to home has contributed to the rivalry aspect.

The selling price was over $2.3 billion, which was a world record at the time. In a meeting on May 22, 2018, the league’s owners accepted the terms of the deal. The transaction was completed on July 9, 2018, according to the official closing date. Following a 6-2 start, the Panthers concluded the season with a 7-9 record.
