Timothée Chalamet Biography and Career:

Timothée Chalamet is an American stage and film actor who burst into the entertainment world with his breakthrough performance as Elio Perlman in the coming-of-age drama film ‘Call Me by Your Name’ directed by Luca Guadagnino. The performance of this actor “alone would make the film worth watching,” as said by Olly Richards of the show “Empire.”

As a result of his outstanding performance, he has been considered for practically all of the significant honors, including the “Academy Award,” “BAFTA Award,” “Golden Globe Award,” “Screen Actors Guild Award,” and the “Critics’ Choice Movie Award.” He is widely anticipated to take home the Oscar for Best Actor, even though he is the third youngest actor nominated for the prize.

Beginning his career as a child artist for commercials, he has previously worked on the television series ‘Law & Order’, ‘Royal Pains’ and ‘Homeland’. In his brief career, which has spanned less than a decade so far, he has already worked in films such as Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar,” Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird,” Scott Cooper’s “Hostiles,” and the autobiographical drama “Prodigal Son” written by John Patrick Shanley.

Timothée Hal Chalamet was born on December 27, 1995, in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. His parents are Nicole Flender, a real estate broker, and Marc Chalamet, an editor for UNICEF. His mother was a former Broadway dancer. His father worked for UNICEF. He has an elder sister named Pauline, who works as an actress in France and resides in the capital city of France.

He gets his French heritage through his father, while his Jewish heritage comes from his mother’s side of the family in the United States. Amy Lippman, a television producer, and writer, is his aunt, and the late screenwriter Harold Flender was his maternal grandpa. Rodman Flender, a filmmaker, is his uncle, and Amy Lippman, a television producer and writer, is his aunt.

His acceptance into the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, when he was a senior in high school sparked his early interest in the performing arts, mainly acting. Following graduating from high school in 2013, he decided to enroll at Columbia University on the recommendation of Claire Danes. However, after a year at Columbia, he transferred to the NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study instead.

Timothée Chalamet started his career as an actor when he was a youngster, performing in various commercials. In 2008, he also appeared in two horror short films titled “Sweet Tooth” and “Clown.”
In 2009, he made his debut on television playing the character of murder victim Eric Foley in the episode “Pledge” of the long-running television series “Law & Order.” After that, he had a small part in the television movie “Loving Leah,” which was also filmed for television.

In 2011, he debuted on stage in the Off-Broadway production ‘The Talls,’ a coming-of-age comedy set in the 1970s. In the play, he played Nicholas, a young lad of 12 years old who was sexually interested. The head theatre reviewer for ‘New York Daily News’ had nothing but appreciation for his fantastic performance in the play. In 2012, he was cast as a recurring character in the television programs ‘Royal Pains’ (a drama) and ‘Homeland’ (a spy-thriller series).

Because of his work on the latter, he was recognized by the Screen Actors Guild with a nomination for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series,” together with the other members of the ensemble. He made his debut in the feature film industry with a supporting part in the drama picture “Men, Women, and Children,” which was directed by Jason Reitman and was a critical and financial flop.

In the same year, he played a younger version of Sam, the co-lead in the comedy film “Worst Friends,” which had a limited theatrical release and garnered favorable reviews for his performance. However, the most significant part he performed that year was the younger version of Tom Cooper in the critically acclaimed science fiction film Interstellar, which was directed by Christopher Nolan and starred Matthew McConaughey as the main character.

The movie was a great hit at the box office, and it also garnered acclaim from film reviewers for the outstanding performances delivered by the cast members. In the 2015 fantasy-thriller ‘One & Two’ directed by Andrew Droz Palermo, he plays one of the characters, a 16-year-old boy named Zac who, together with his sister Eva, finds out that they have superhuman skills after their mother becomes sick. Later on in the same year, he played the younger version of Stephen Elliott, the character played by James Franco, in Pamela Romanowsky’s criminal thriller “The Adderall Diaries,” and he played Charlie Cooper in Pamela Romanowsky’s Christmas comedy “Love the Coopers.”

In February 2016, he returned to the stage as Jim Quinn in the autobiographical drama “Prodigal Son,” performed at Manhattan Theatre Club. The author and director John Patrick Shanley and producer Scott Rudin had personally selected him for the role. His performance as a young Shanley, a misfit Bronx boy at a renowned New Hampshire prep school in 1963, garnered him several honors, nominations, and excellent praise from reviewers.

In the indie film ‘Miss Stevens,’ which he starred in with Lily Rabe in 2016, he portrayed the role of wayward student Billy. Stephen Holden of ‘The New York Times’ said he had not seen a more robust portrayal of the climax monologue from ‘Death of a Salesman’ and compared the actor to James Dean. His breakout performance came in the part of Elio Perlman, a seventeen-year-old Italian kid living in Italy in the 1980s who falls in love with Oliver, the assistant to his father.
