In addition to being an artist, her younger brother Richard Jr.MacGraw received his education first at the elite “Rosemary Hall” in Greenwich, Connecticut, and then at the “Wellesley College” in the nearby town of Wellesley, Massachusetts.

She came from a creative family, so it was only natural that she would want to work in the arts herself. Her parents were not wealthy and struggled with their troubles, which impacted her youth, so it wasn’t an easy time for her growing up. At the age of 22, MacGraw started working in the fashion industry in 1960, first as a photographic assistant for Diana Vreeland, editor of “Harper’s Bazaar,” and then as a fashion stylist for Melvin Sokolsky, who worked at “Vogue.”

After people took note of her natural attractiveness, they quickly began asking her to pose for advertisements. She has roles in ads for television shows, including ‘Polaroid Swinger Camera.’ Her fresh face, which required very little makeup, ushered in a new style of seeming more natural than made-up, known as the “fresh-face” appearance. After a brief stint in the modeling industry, she decided to pursue a career in the performing arts and launched her acting career in 1968 with a supporting part in the film ‘A Lovely Way to Die.’

She received accolades for her performance in her subsequent film, “Goodbye, Columbus,” released in 1969. She was given the ‘1970 Golden Globe Award’ for the ‘Most Promising Newcomer-Female category.’She had a strong relationship with Paramount executive Robert Evans during the production of “Goodbye Columbus,” the two eventually tied the knot in 1969. Additionally, he was instrumental in steering her professional path.

She was recognized with a nomination for the “Academy Award” as well as a win for the “Golden Globe Award” in the “Best Actress – Drama Category” category. The next movie directed by MacGraw was called “The Getaway,” and it also featured Steve McQueen.

Her husband, Robert Evans, was the one who encouraged her to take on different parts and try new things. At first, she didn’t like the screenplay and was hesitant to sign up for the film. The movie “The Getaway” was a hit and significantly changed her personal and professional life. After stepping away from the acting world for five years, she returned to work in 1978 when she was cast as “Melissa” in the motion picture “Convoy,” which starred Kris Kristofferson. The movie was quite successful for the company.

MacGraw maintained her career and acted in films such as “Players” (1979) and “Just Tell Me What You Want” (1980) despite the personal challenges she faced and the natural calamities that occurred during this time. In the 1983 miniseries titled “The Winds of War,” she made her first television appearance, playing the character of “Natalie Jastrow” alongside Robert Mitchum.

The following year, in 1992, MacGraw appeared in the television movie “Survive the Savage Sea.” Before that, in 1991, when she was 52 years old, she was included on the list of the “Top 50 most beautiful women in the world” published in “People” magazine.
