Known for her appearances on the BBC’s popular business show Dragons’ Den, British entrepreneur and media personality Deborah Meaden is no stranger to the spotlight. Deborah has been a dragon (a venture capitalist) since 2006 and has invested in a range of firms, including Good Bubble and Grip It.

Deborah and Gail Meaden’s mother, Sonia Meaden, relocated to Essex with them. Two more sisters were born as a result of her marriage to Brian Meaden. Before attending Trowbridge High School for Girls in Wiltshire she temporarily attended Godolphin boarding school in Salisbury. After that, she enrolled in a business programme at Brighton Technical College.
When Deborah Meaden was just a little girl, she knew she wanted to be her own boss. She met Paul in 1985 and they married in 1993. Both London and Somerset are where she owns residences. A legal struggle against the manufacturers was out of the question because she lacked the financial resources to do so. While in the UK, she and her partner bought one of the first Stefanel textile franchises; however, they didn’t keep it for long, and a few years later they sold it to their partner in full. She returned to the UK. The Butlins in Minehead bingo concession was another of her profitable businesses.
In 1988, she joined her family’s amusement arcade business after establishing her own business track record. She started out as a slot machine monitor and worked her way up to become the arcade’s Operations Director. In 1992, she made the switch to work for Weststar Holidays, a chain of holiday parks. She was promoted to Managing Director in just two years. More than 150,000 people enjoyed high-quality vacations each year while they were under her leadership, as the number of holiday parks expanded from one to five.
Her parents retired in 1999, and when they did, she launched a management buyout and took control of the company. For her part, she sold Phoenix Equity Partners in 2005, and for the remainder, Parkdean Holidays in 2007. Several years later, she invested in the sole surviving woollen textile mill, Fox Brothers, alongside her partner stakeholder, Douglas Cordeaux.
To market British luxury items, she opened an internet store in 2011 called The Merchant Fox. In 2006, she appeared on the BBC’s Dragons’ Den, a popular television show. It features entrepreneurs (dragons) who present their business ideas to venture capitalists (dragons), and if they like the idea, they invest their own money in exchange for equity. Throughout the show’s entire run, Deborah Meaden has served as a regular cast member.
