Fred S. Ridley is a partner at Foley & Lardner LLP, a former national chair of Foley’s Real Estate Practice, a member of the Hospitality & Leisure (former co-chair) and Sports Industry Teams, and a member of the Transactions Practice. In addition, he was previously the national chair of Foley’s Real Estate Practice. Additionally, he has previous experience serving on the Management Committee of the company.
The areas of commercial and planned unit real estate development and finance, golf and recreational amenity and resort development, and multifamily and condominium developments are the primary focuses of Fred’s legal practice.
Fred has more than 25 years of expertise in representing developers of single-family and multifamily real estate projects. He has served as lead counsel to several of the most well-known waterfront complexes in Florida over his career. In connection with these projects, he has coordinated all matters pertaining to purchase and financing, as well as environmental and coastal permitting and negotiations of entitlements with various local and state governmental organizations.

Ridley, a player who is a part of the Augusta National Golf Club, was the head of the competition committee for The Masters in the year 2011. Augusta National Golf Club made the announcement on August 23, 2017, that Ridley would follow Billy Payne as chairman of the club. Ridley will officially take over as chairman of the club on October 16, 2017, when the club reopens for the 2017–18 season.
In 2004, Ridley was selected to serve as the co-chairman of the International Golf Federation, in addition to being elected president of the United States Golf Association (USGA). Ridley was a member of the United States team that competed for the World Amateur Eisenhower Trophy in 1976 and the United States team that competed for the Walker Cup in 1977. While competing in the 1977 Walker Cup, he was victorious in two of his singles matches (both of them were against Sandy Lyle), but he was defeated in his foursomes match. In 1976, he also took first place at the Monroe Invitational.
Ridley is the only previous winner of the United States Amateur Championship who has never become a professional in the sport of golf. As an amateur, he participated in three Masters Tournaments and one United States Open. Ridley took part in competitions on the international stage, including the British Open in 1976, as well as the British Amateur in 1977 and 1987. His career low for a round of 18 holes is 63.
