James Harden Biography and Career:

Monja Wills and James Harden Sr. welcomed their son James Edward Harden Jr. into the world on August 26, 1989, in the city of Los Angeles, California. His mother was employed as an administrator with ‘AT&T’ in Pasadena at the time of his birth, while his father was serving in the ‘US Navy’ at the time of his birth.
As a result of his drug problems, James’s father served a significant amount of time behind bars. As a result, James has distanced himself from his father and continues to reject the use of the suffix “Jr.” in his name.

Compton’s “Rancho Dominguez” neighborhood was James’s home for the better part of his formative years. He has a half-brother by the name of Akili Roberson as well as a sister by the name of Arnique Jelks as his siblings. In Lakewood, California, James received his secondary education at the “Artesia High School.” After that, he became a member of the ‘Arizona State team and played for them. Before James became a professional basketball player, he began playing the game when he was still in grade school and kept playing through college. During his second year, he guided ‘Artesia’ to a record of 28-5.

After leading ‘Artesia’ to the state championship in California during his junior year with a record of 33–1, he went on to finish his career with a record of 33–2 while maintaining the title of state champions. In addition to being recognized as a “McDonald’s All-American,” he was also selected for the second team of “Parade All-Americans.” In addition to that, he was an integral part of his Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) squad, Pump-N-Run Elite, who won the “Las Vegas Adidas Super 64 Championship” in 2006. On the other hand, his first year at Arizona State was not exactly a walk in the park for him.

The ‘Sun Devils,’ of whom he was a member, were generally regarded as one of the least formidable squads in the ‘Pac-10.’ James guided his team to a 9–9 conference record while obtaining an overall score of 21–13 and tying for the fifth rank in the ‘Pac-10.’ With the help of sophomore point man Derek Glasser and junior forward Ty Pendergraph, James was able to accomplish this feat. The ‘Sun Devils’ were unable to qualify for the ‘NCAA Tournament’ in 2008, therefore they participated in the ‘National Invitation Tournament (NIT) instead, where they won twice before being upset by the ‘Florida Gators.’

James was honored by being selected for the all-freshman team of the Pac-10 Conference in addition to being placed on the first team of the “All-Pac-10.” The ‘National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the ‘United States Basketball Writers Association’ both placed him on their respective first teams for ‘All-District,’ recognizing him as an outstanding player in the district (USBWA). During his sophomore season, he also set a career-best with 40 points scored in a win against UTEP with a score of 88–58.

In addition to that, he was featured on the cover of the collegiate basketball edition of “Sports Illustrated” and was included on the preseason watch list for the “Wooden Award.” In 2009, he was recognized as a member of the “All-Pac 10 Tournament Team” and was also given the title of “Player of the Year” for the Pacific-10 Conference. After the conclusion of the season, he was taken into consideration for the “NBA Draft” in 2009 and was given the honor of being named a consensus “All-American.”

During the 2008–2009 season, the “Oklahoma City Thunder” selected Harden with the third overall choice in the “NBA Draft.” This selection occurred during the 2009–2010 campaign. Harden moved up to the fourth spot on the list of players under the age of 21 with the greatest 3-point % scoring for the NBA.

In 2009, he set a new season high with 26 points scored against the ‘Golden State Warriors,’ which led to his being chosen to the second team of ‘NBA-All-Rookies.’ With a season-high score of 40 points against the ‘Phoenix Suns,’ he became the first NBA player in a reserve position to score 40 points, becoming the second player overall to do so after Rodrigue Beaubois. By the 2011–2012 season, he had developed into an essential member of the squad.

In addition to that, the NBA recognized him as the Sixth Man of the Year. It was with his assistance that the ‘Thunder’ advanced all the way to the ‘NBA Finals,’ where they were ultimately eliminated by the ‘Miami Heat.’ The failure of Harden and the ‘Thunder’ to come to an agreement resulted in Harden signing a contract extension with the ‘Houston Rockets in 2012 for an additional $80 million. This was the outcome of Harden and the ‘Thunder’ being unable to come to an agreement. Throughout the course of the season, he put up impressive numbers, averaging 25.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game.

As a result of his statistics, he became only the fifth player in the annals of NBA history to score 2,000 points in a single season. As the fourth player ever, he became the fourth player in NBA history to record at least 600 free throws and shoot at least 150 three-pointers in a single season, joining the ranks of Gilbert Arenas, Kobe Bryant, and Jerry Stackhouse. Additionally, he was selected for the All-NBA Third Team for the 2012–2013 season, which was the first time in his career that he was selected for an All-NBA Team.

During the 2013–2014 NBA season, he was selected to participate in the 2014 “NBA All-Star Game” as a reserve player. He was awarded the title of “Western Conference Player of the Week” on two separate occasions during the course of the season and set a new best for points scored in a game with 43 against the “Sacramento Kings.” At the conclusion of the campaign, he was honored by being selected for inclusion on the “All-NBA First Team.”
