Joan Allen Biography and Career:

Joan Allen is a well-known American actress born on August 20, 1956. She started her acting career in 1977 with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. In 1984, she earned the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play for her performance in And a Nightingale Sang. In 1988, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance in Burn This, her Broadway debut.

Between the middle of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, Allen amassed a streak of highly lauded performances that brought him prominence on a global scale. She has also been nominated for an Academy Award three times, twice for the role of Best Supporting Actress (for her work in Nixon (1995) and The Crucible (1996)) and once for the part of Best Actress (for her work in The Contender (2000)).

Manhunter (1986), Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988), Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993), The Ice Storm (1997), Face/Off (1997), Pleasantville (1998), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), The Upside of Anger (2005), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), Death Race (2008), and The Bourne Legacy (2012) are some of the other films in which Allen has appeared as an actor.

She played the lead part in the drama The Ice Storm, which Ang Lee directed, and the action thriller Face/Off, which John Woo directed. Both films were released in 1997, while Pleasantville, released in 1998, was a comedy-drama.In 2001, Allen appeared in The Mists of Avalon mini-series, shown on TNT. In the film The Notebook, which was released in 2004, she also appeared as Rachel McAdams’ mother.
