It was during the third season of The Next Generation that Frakes started directing episodes of the show. He went on to direct the feature films Star Trek: First Contact (1996) and Star Trek: Insurrection (1998), as well as episodes of the succeeding Star Trek shows Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Discovery, Strange New Worlds, and Picard.

Since that time, he has directed a significant amount of television shows, such as Roswell, Leverage, Burn Notice, and The Librarian television movie and series. Bethlehem, which is located in the Lehigh Valley area of eastern Pennsylvania, is where Frakes spent his childhood. He received his high school education at Liberty High School, which is located in Bethlehem.

During his time at Liberty High School, he participated in track and field, was a member of the Grenadier Band, and graduated in 1970. In 1974, Frakes received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theater Arts from Pennsylvania State University, where he had previously gained his education. He participated in the Thespians as a member. After that, Frakes joined the Loeb Drama Center, which is associated with Harvard University and is an acting company.

The 1970s were a period when Frakes worked for Marvel Comics, and at that time he attended conventions dressed as Captain America. Following his relocation to New York City, Frakes joined the Impossible Ragtime Theater as a member of the company. Under the direction of George Ferencz, Frakes made his debut in the world of off-Broadway acting with the production of Eugene O’Neill’s The Hairy Ape.

During his debut on Broadway, he appeared in the play Shenandoah. He was also able to get a part in the NBC soap opera The Doctors at the same period.[10] [10] Following the cancellation of his role on the program, Frakes relocated to Los Angeles and went on to appear as a guest star in a number of the most popular television shows of the 1970s and 1980s. These series included The Waltons in the episodes “The Legacy” and “The Lost Sheep,” as well as Eight Is Enough and Hart to Hart!

Hill Street Blues, The Dukes of Hazzard, Matlock, and Quincy, M.E. in “The Face of Fear” are some of the films that this author has worked on. In the year 1987, Frakes was selected to play the part of Commander William T. Riker on the television show Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was just two actors, including Patrick Stewart, who appeared in every episode of the show. He was one of the two.

Because Frakes was able to see casting sessions, idea meetings, production design, editing, and post-production while he was performing on the program, he was able to get the necessary preparation to become a director. The program had eight episodes that he directed, while the Star Trek universe had twenty-one episodes that he directed.

In the years after the conclusion of the television series in 1994, Frakes returned to the character of Star Trek in the Star Trek: The Next Generation films, of which he directed two of them (Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection). Frakes directed the family movie Clockstoppers, which was his first film for a project outside of the Star Trek series. On the other hand, his subsequent picture, Thunderbirds, was a commercial failure, and he has said that it was the one factor that almost brought an end to what had been a prosperous career as a director.

Frakes might be heard playing trombone on the tune “Riker’s Mailbox” which was included on the Phish album Hoist, which was released in 1994. In the course of his time as Commander Riker, Frakes would sometimes give performances on the trombone, drawing on his previous expertise in marching bands with the college band.
