K. N. Rao Biography and Career:
Kotamraju Narayana Rao (Telugu: ; born 12 October 1931), abbreviated K. N. Rao (Telugu:..), is a Hindu astrologer and author of numerous books on Hindu astrology. Kotamraju Narayana Rao was born in the Andhra Pradesh village of Machilipatnam. He retired as Director General of the Indian Audits and Accounts Service in November 1990. Rao studied astrology under the tutelage of his mother K. Saraswati Devi. He is the Advisor and co-founder of the world’s largest astrological school, which is based in New Delhi’s Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan.
Additionally, he maintains the Journal of Astrology, a three-monthly publication that features papers and research on Vedic Astrology. He was the Chief Guest at the American Council of Vedic Astrology’s Second Conference in 1993. He was also scheduled to attend the Third and Fourth Conferences in 1994 and 1995, but did not go. He was instrumental in establishing Vedic astrology as a study course in Indian colleges during the BJP’s tenure at the centre. He is currently directing study into several facets of Vedic Astrology.
In response to a concern about the name Vedic astrology being used to refer to Indian astrology, he stated, “Jyotish should not be referred to as Vedic Astrology technically. The Vedas are the authentic source for Yagnas and Karmakanda. Smritis is the term used by householders. However, the Vedas and Smritis are both included in the Puranas.
Just as the entire Creation descended from Him, the entire world’s literature is descended from the Puranas. There is not the slightest doubt about that. There is no mechanism described in the Vedas for determining Tithi, Vaar, Nakshatra, or planetary Sanchara (transits). The Vedas make no reference of the process for establishing the dates of Parvas (festivals) or Eclipses. What the Vedas do not contain is contained in the Smritis. And what is not contained in these two books is to be found in the Puranas.”
Concerning the significance of mathematical abilities and the use of computers in astrology, he states, “I am a firm believer that manual/mental calculations aid in visualisation and the development of intuition for practising astrology. I am generally sceptical of relying solely on Jyotish software solutions available on the market.” He continues, “Despite my worries about the usage of astrological software applications, computers are extremely beneficial and a huge time saving for a serious astrologer.
If I have access to a Jyotish programme that I have verified to be trustworthy, I immediately use it. If not, I perform some manual computations to ensure its accuracy on a continuous and recurrent basis. While the majority of the time, the fundamental horoscopes generated by these software tools are accurate, the supplemental elements, such as less often utilised Dasha systems or Ashtakavargas, are sometimes defective or plain incorrect.”
In discussing the significance of intuition in astrology, he states, “As an astrologer advances, almost magically, more intuition begins to enter the picture.” Additionally, he writes, “According to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras[28], everyone of us possesses a Jyotishmati Nadi (or predictive intuitive channel) that, when engaged, enables us to perceive the past, present, and future. There is no requirement for a horoscope or understanding of astrology in this case.”
He correctly predicted a number of political revolutions, natural and man-made calamities, and significant world events. This includes predictions about a major change in the central government in 1989, Sonia Gandhi’s political ascension following 1998, the fall of the Deve Gowda government in 1997, the likelihood of US President Bill Clinton being involved in land or sex scandals, the Gujarat earthquake of 2001, and Benazir Bhutto’s untimely demise.
Several of his predictions proved to be incorrect, including the prediction that there would be no mid-term elections in 1999 or 2000 and that the then-current parliament would last five years without elections with more than one Prime Minister, the likelihood of a workable solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict and the emergence of a full-fledged Palestine state around 2002–03, and a devastating attack by the United States.
