Noah Kahan Biography and Career:

Noah Kahan is a singer and songwriter from the United States. He was born on January 1, 1997, and signed with Republic Records in 2017. His breakout track “Hurt Somebody” was certified gold in the United States and charted in several other foreign countries. His first studio album, Busyhead (2018), was preceded by the publication of a song and an EP with the same name.

I Was / I Am (in 2020) and Stick Season (in 2022) would be his following two albums, with the latter serving as his breakthrough into the mainstream commercial market. Both albums would arrive within five years. The town of Strafford in Vermont is where Kahan was born. Through his father, Kahan may trace his roots to Jewish ancestry. He received his high school education from Hanover High School in Hanover, New Hampshire. At eight, Kahan started creating songs and uploading them to SoundCloud and YouTube, where his music started gaining popularity.

Kahan said his first job was working as a valet at a hotel. However, he was dismissed from that position after smashing a vehicle while working there. Seventeen years old at the time, Kahan started collaborating with other high school students and music producers known as Cwenga Matanzima. This piqued the interest of his current manager, Drew Simmons of Foundations Artist Management, who began working with him.

Additionally, composers like Dan Wilson, who collaborated with artists such as Adele, Scott Harris, and Carrie Underwood, noticed him after hearing his music. Kahan chose to postpone his enrollment at Tulane University so that he could focus on his burgeoning music career. According to Kahan, two of the professional objectives he intended to achieve were to get verified on Instagram and to create a page dedicated to him.

Paul Simon, Yusuf Islam (also known as Cat Stevens), Counting Crows, Hozier, and Mumford & Sons are some artists that Kahan claims influence his work. Kahan has been quite open about the fact that he has struggled with anxiety and depression throughout his life, and he has also discussed at length the impact that these conditions have had on his life. He has said that writing on these themes is therapeutic for him.

According to statements made by Kahan to a local news organization in Australia, “I’ve been struggling with anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember.” “I had no idea what it was until I started attending high school,” she said. After that, when I began releasing music and saw that it connected with other people, I realized that it wasn’t something I should be embarrassed by and that others were genuinely relating to the music I was doing.

It is a genuine problem, and it’s a tough one that I have to deal with regularly. It stinks, and it’s a crappy problem. There are moments when everyone around me seems to thrive, and I feel I somehow lack something. Music, however, provides me with a channel to express it and helps other individuals. Therefore, [anxiety] may have its highs and lows.

In 2016, Kahan secured a recording contract with Republic Records and started collaborating with producer Joel Little, who is most known for his work with Lorde and Khalid. Together, Little and Kahan released six songs throughout their collaboration. On January 27, 2017, Kahan launched his first song, “Young Blood,” which has now amassed more than 9 million streams. Kahan released “Hurt Somebody” on September 15, 2017, marking the launch of the first song off the upcoming debut extended play of the same name.

Later in 2017, the song “Hurt Somebody” was re-recorded with the participation of Julia Michaels, a singer nominated for a Grammy Award. In January 2018, Hurt Somebody was made available to the public. On April 8, 2019, Kahan announced that he would be releasing his first full-length studio album, which would be named Busyhead. The album would contain a duet version of “Hurt Somebody,” in addition to two more songs titled “False Confidence” and “Mess.” On June 14, 2019, it was made available to the public.

On April 30, 2020, Kahan sent a message on his Instagram announcing that he would release an EP at noon. After that, he let go of Cape Elizabeth. It was precisely one week after Kahan fled New York City in March to evade COVID-19 that the album was recorded over one week in the home studio of Kahan’s friend Phin Choukas in Vermont. After that, on May 1st, 2020, Cape Elizabeth was made available.

The album was made available for purchase on September 17th, 2021. As singles building up to the release of the album, “Part of Me,” “Godlight,” and “Animal” were all released by Kahan during the summer before the album was made available to the public. “Part of Me” was the only one of the three singles to be removed before announcing the album’s release.

Kahan started dropping hints about his upcoming song “Stick Season” for approximately two years. The track quickly became a favorite among listeners, contributing to its meteoric fame on TikTok’s social media app. The song became Kahan’s highest-charting single in the United States when it was released on July 8, 2022. It reached its highest position on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart at number 2 and its most fantastic place on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs list at number 12.
