American author and activist Shaun King is active in the fight for civil liberties and utilizes social media to spread the word. He enrolled at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, but had to take a medical leave of absence halfway through his studies. As he returned, Morehouse honored him by designating him the Oprah Winfrey Scholar. Recipients of scholarships are expected to keep their grades up and volunteer in their communities. He worked as a teacher at Atlanta’s Franklin Lebby Stanton Elementary School to satisfy his volunteer obligation.

In 1999, he was voted president of the student body at his university. His history degree was conferred to him in 2002. He graduated from Arizona State University with a master’s degree in history in 2018. The King family consists of Shaun, his wife Rai, and their five children: three biological and two adoptive. Shaun King started his career as a high school history and civics teacher in Atlanta after he graduated in 2002. About a year later, he began his career in Atlanta’s juvenile court system. He started documenting events related to the Black Lives Matter movement, a worldwide protest against racism and police brutality. Civil rights, widespread violence, and police brutality, especially against black people, were among Shaun King’s first subjects of discussion as a contributor to the politically liberal website, the “Daily Kos,” in September 2014.

He founded Justice Together in August 2015 to expose police violence and convince local leaders to implement reforms. Unfortunately, he closed it the following year.
