Viggo Peter Mortensen was born in New York City on October 20, 1958. His Danish parents, Viggo Peter Mortensen Sr. and Grace Gamble brought him into the world. His mother was from the United States, and his father was from Denmark. His maternal grandfather was born in Canada, but his maternal grandmother was born and raised in New England in the United States.
