Cat Stevens Biography and Career:

On July 21, 1948, in London, England, Steven Demetre Georgiou was given the name Cat Stevens. He was raised by restaurateurs Stavros Georgiou and Ingrid Wickman. Anita and David were Steven’s two older siblings.His parents separated when he was eight years old, but they kept living above their “Moulin Rouge” restaurant. The desire to become a musician quickly overcame this instinct, and in 1965, he began going by the stage name “Steve Adams” and playing at a neighbourhood tavern called “Black Horse.”In 1965, he inked his first publication contract as a songwriter with “Ardmore and Beechwood,” and he started using the stage name Cat Stevens.Mike Hurst negotiated a record deal for Cat Stevens in 1966 after being struck by his talent. He reached No. 2 and No. 6 on the charts with the singles “Matthew and Son” and “I’m Gonna Get Me a Gun.” Matthew and Son, an album, peaked at No. 7 on the UK Albums Chart.

He afterwards went on tour with Jimi Hendrix and Engelbert Humperdinck through England and Europe. Within three weeks after its release, the album had become a smash hit and a gold record.

He used synthesisers extensively on his 1977 album “Izitso,” which was released. The techno-pop songs, created using music sequencers, turned out to be forerunners of the electric music style of the 1980s.After converting to Islam in 1977, he took a significant sabbatical from his musical career.He picked up music again in the 1990s and wrote songs with Islamic themes. He started his own record label, “Jamal Records,” as well as a recording studio called “Mountain of Light.”
