San Francisco Giants Biography and Career:
The San Francisco Giants are an American baseball team headquartered in San Francisco, California. The Giants have eight World Series championships and 23 National League pennants to their credit. The Giants were originally known as the Gothams when they were created in New York City in 1883. After a thrilling extra-inning victory, the team has dubbed the Giants in 1885, after their ecstatic manager described them as “giants.” A year after taking home their first National League pennant and an unofficial World Series against the American Association champions, the Giants repeated as National League champions the following year.
As a result of the Brooklyn Bridegrooms’ (then Dodgers’, now Los Angeles Dodgers’) entry into the National League in 1890, a long-standing rivalry with the San Francisco Giants was established, which has endured to this day. The Giants dropped out of contention immediately and didn’t return to the top of the National League until they hired manager John McGraw in the middle of the 1902 season. A seven-game series against the Kansas City Royals was won by the team, which was led by ace Madison Bumgarner, who won both of his starts and then came out of the bullpen to pitch five scoreless innings to secure the win and the championship.
The Giants had the worst record in the National League in 2017, after entering the playoffs in 2016 and losing in the division series that year. Following a string of poor seasons, the San Francisco 49ers shocked everyone by setting a team and league record by winning 107 games in 2021. In their first postseason appearance in five years, the Giants were upset by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the division series.
